Holidays Formentera

A jewel in the Mediterranean, Fomentera is perhaps the most beautiful of the Balearic Islands. A tiny island measuring only 20km from east to west, it is an oasis of crystal clear waters and immaculate white-sand beaches.

Though only a short ferry trip from party-mad Ibiza, Fomentera is a magnet for those seeking to escape and unwind. A hippy hangout in the 60s, it is relaxed, laid-back and bohemian despite its growing popularity. An island that combines tourism with environmental conservation, it is free from over-development and home to some of Spain’s longest, whitest and least-crowded beaches.

The 5km stretch of Platja de Migjom in the south of the island – an idyll that is virtually untouched – is home to the legendary Blue Bar, while from the beautiful Platja de Ses Illetes you can cross a narrow channel to explore the uninhabited island of Espalmador.

The main tourist resort, Es Pujol, features two sandy beaches and a selection of chic boutiques and bars. Though relatively small compared to other islands, late-night bars and seafood restaurants entertain visitors until late. It is also home to the island’s only club.

Those keen to experience the famed party-scene of Ibiza can take a ferry and spend a night in the heart of hedonism, catching a return ferry to Fomentera afterwards to recover.

Las Salinas

On the southern tip of Fuerteventura, Las Salinas is a popular haunt for surfers and water-sports enthusiasts. There is also a very good golf course there.
