Puerto de la Cruz Holidays

A stylish resort on the northern coastline of Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz has been a popular tourist escape since the late 1900s.

Originally a port for the wealthy, the town developed around the harbour. Now, full of colourful fishing boats and lined with food stalls selling Canarian specialities, the marina remains the centre of town. The resort extends from the waterfront in mixture of narrow, cobbled streets, elegant plazas and stylish boardwalks. Home to classy boutiques, terraced restaurants and traditional coffee shops, Plaza Charca, a leafy square centred on an ancient Laurel tree, is the heart of the town’s nightlife and an atmospheric place for drinks or dinner.

Nestled in the Orotava valley, Puerto de la Cruz it is a green part of the island, home to lush vegetation and sub-tropical gardens, and the Jardín Botánico is well-worth visiting. There is a wide range of day trips available for those who tire of the beach. Loro Park is home to the world’s largest collection of parrots, a subterranean aquarium and an enormous penguinarium, while the watery playground of water-park Lago Martiánez has four salt-water pools and a casino set in tropical gardens.

Playa Jardín is the premium beach of the area. Distinctive, it is made of the jet black volcanic sand typical of the island. Decked with sun loungers and beach bars, it is a popular area for water-sports.
