Garda Holidays

The spectacular Lake Garda amazes by its sheer size and beauty. The largest lake in Italy, it covers an immense 365 square km, its broad southern expanse resembling an inland ocean. Surrounded by rugged mountains and stunning scenery, it is the treasure of northern Italy.

A magnet for holidaymakers keen to soak up the stark natural beauty and enjoy some authentic Italian culture, the region has developed a fantastic tourist infrastructure, with a wide range of accommodation. The south east is home to amusement parks ideal for children, while further north, cable cars take visitors some 1800m high into the mountains, where there are some great trails for hiking, biking and horse-riding. The craggy peaks of Riva Del Garda are also a hiking haven, drawing a crowd of rock-climbers as well as walking enthusiasts.

Stronger winds to the north of the lake make it a hotspot for wind-surfers. In particular, Malcesine, a town nestled at the foot of Monte Baldo, is a magnet for water-sports enthusiasts, while the less adventurous can take one of the Navigarda ferries to explore the entire lake. The region is home to some beautifully quaint villages, such as Brenzone and Lazise. Sirmione on the south coast, featuring a jumble of Roman ruins, is particularly picturesque.
