Goa District Holidays

‘Sussegad’ is the local Goan word for relaxed and it perfectly sums up this small Indian state’s charm. Located on the west-coast, Goa enjoys a 70km stretch of seaside that looks out to the Arabian Sea. It’s no longer the quiet, hippy haven of the 60s, but with a little planning you can still find miles of uninterrupted beach and gently swaying palms. When the local entertainment includes watching a game of cricket on the beach or a stroll through coconut groves, you know you won’t find it hard to take things easy. Visit in February and you’ll experience the Goan Carnival; a celebration of dancing and feasting.

Goa has a rich history. As a former Portuguese colony, it retains an exotic blend of cultures. Faith in various forms plays a significant role in the lives of locals, and people come from far and wide to see the Hindu temples and cathedrals. The exquisite architecture has a weathered appeal, and combines Indian, Islamic, and Portuguese styles.

With the average temperatures hovering somewhere around 27C, sunshine is almost unlimited. Combined with tempting stretches of white sand and palm trees, Goa really is a beach-lovers paradise. But for those feeling a little more adventurous, lush mountain ranges provide ideal trekking territory. It won’t be long before you’re rewarded with fantastic views of the incredibly diverse wildlife. A holiday to Goa might include a stay at one of the many Luxury spa hotels, where beauty treatments and pampering will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed, but visits don’t need to be high-budget and there are plenty of decent low-cost hotels.
