Madeira Holidays

A sub-tropical island just north of the Canary Islands, Madeira is blessed with broad blue skies and balmy temperatures all year round. A popular year-round destination, it draws those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of big resorts.

With a dramatic mountainous interior and rugged terrain, Madeira is a magnet for walking enthusiasts. The island is covered in a network of over 2000km worth of criss-crossing footpaths that range from gentle strolls through lush forests to hair-raising hikes along precipitous cliffs to scenic coastal paths.

Though the coastline is mainly rocky, there is a handful of beaches, though the majority are composed of jet-black volcanic sand. The beaches of Calheta and Machico however, created with imported sand, are picture-perfect golden-sands backed by spectacular cliffs.

A popular stop off point for cruise ships, the ports and marinas are always busy. A wide selection of boat excursions also depart from the marinas. A more tranquil island than its party-focused neighbours, Funchal, the capital of Madeira, has a distinctly traditional flavour. Composed of wide boulevards and pristine plazas, and sheltered by a curve of cliffs, it is a picturesque city that has a wide selection of good restaurants and lively bars.

A tranquil oasis of rugged natural scenery, traditional towns and cosmopolitan resorts, Madeira is a fantastic destination.
