Finland Holidays

Finland is northern lights country. The aurora borealis can typically be seen between September and April in a spectacular display of illumination. Even if you miss the lights, Finland has an incredible natural beauty which can be appreciated in all seasons. Picture crystal clear lakes, expansive blue skies and vast forests. In winter, you’ll find plenty of snow and temperatures below freezing, but in summer, warm airflows from the Atlantic and Baltic Seas can lift temperatures to a very pleasant 20 degrees centigrade.

During the colder months, dog-sledding and skiing are popular pursuits, but when the snow melts in summer visitors can enjoy woodland bike rides, lake swimming and sailing. During June, July and August, the Fins like to retreat to their lake-side cottages where relaxation is a priority. Join the national tradition and hire a self-catering cottage where you can enjoy the life of outdoor barbeques, gentle rowing trips, and the tranquil wilderness. Finnish cuisine includes plenty of locally sourced ingredients, so dining out is a unique experience. Typical dishes include, reindeer with cloudberry sauce, meatballs, and smoked fish.

The world-renowned Savonlinna Opera Festival is a highlight of the Finnish calendar. Visit in July to witness fantastic performances from the rich and varied festival programme. The Sarkanniemi Amusement Park is a great attraction for the whole family and includes a fairground, dolphinarium, and planetarium.
