Spend the sunny days on Icmeler’s beautiful horseshoe bay, set against the backdrop of the leafy promenade. The beach has dark golden sand that shelves gently into the clear shore, making it the ideal place to swim, sunbathe and mess about with water sports. Take a stroll along the waterfront and stop for mezes at a Turkish restaurant, or browse the markets for hidden treasures. The kids will love a day out at Atlantis Waterpark, popular with all ages for its water slides, wave pool and mini golf. In the evenings, pick a family-friendly bar for after dinner drinks and join in with the karaoke.
Icmeler’s arched bay is fringed with green palms and fragrant eucalyptus trees, with mixed golden sand and shingle smoothing into the shallow shore. The blue, warm water is classic of the Aegean Coast, and is a wonderful place for swimming and splashing about. The beach has sun loungers, umbrellas and a sunny promenade that reaches all the way to Marmaris, packed with beachfront cafes and restaurants. Favourite beach activities in Icmeler include racing across the water on jet skis or the banana boat, or taking a more leisurely ride in a pedal boat. The crystal clear water is also popular with scuba divers and snorkelers.
Test your haggling skills at Icmeler’s exciting Wednesday market, a local favourite for its bustling atmosphere and variety of local produce, handmade crafts and knickknacks. There are more places to shop along the sunny seafront promenade, where it’s possible to walk all the way along to Marmaris. The nightlife is a little calmer than its lively neighbour, but there is still a top choice of bars that develop a sociable buzz after dark, with a variety of restaurants including BBQ grills, Indian and Italian. If you’re keen to try some authentic Turkish cuisine, the best place in Icmeler is the waterfront, where you can share mezes or tasty kofte.
Around 20 minutes’ drive away is Marmaris’ fantastic Atlantis Waterpark, one of the biggest family attractions in Icmeler. The park has nine water slides ranging from kid-friendly to the speedy Black Hole, plus a wave pool and a children’s zone. When you’ve had enough of the water, the park also has mini golf, bowling, three restaurants and a bar. Boat trips along the spectacular coast are favourites with families, where you can drop anchor and swim or snorkel in the bays. Make sure you keep an eye out for turtles, as the beaches in this part of Turkey are known nesting sites for Loggerheads and Caretta Carettas.
