For a change of scenery, take the bus to the local water park and cool off in the pool and get ready for a big night out. Visit on a Saturday to shop at the lively market or head up to the main mall for clothes shops. If you fancy a day trip, the resort is home to the Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park. Not just for kids, the Rancho has a fantastic water park with huge swimming pools and water slides.
Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote’s nightlife capital, coming alive after dark with a mix of clubs, sports pubs and all-night parties. The main street, Avenida de la Playas, is the best place in Puerto del Carmen for the biggest clubs open until the early hours. After a long day on the beach, the waterfront is a good place to get the night started. Chill out with a cocktail on the beach and listen to some live music before hitting the pubs for karaoke, theme nights and drinking games. Puerto del Carmen has spring-like temperatures all year round, with surprisingly mild winters. Summer temperatures kick off around April, maintaining mid 20s (°C) sunshine right the way through to October.
By bus: Puerto del Carmen runs a reliable bus service down its main street and out to nearby Arrecife. The bus is very affordable and is the best way to make short journeys down to the beach or your hotel.
By car: Lanzarote’s roads are well-maintained and signposted, and the island is small enough to be able to get anywhere in around an hour. Lanzarote Airport has a choice of international car hire companies at competitive prices.
By taxi: Taxis in Lanzarote are metered and have a green light on their roof when available. There are taxi ranks in the resort centres as well as at the airport.
For music fans: In July, Puerto del Carmen hosts the annual Lanzarote Summer Music Festival. An exciting and colourful two day event, the resort comes alive with live musicians and bands from around Lanzarote. In between concerts you can enjoy pop-up shops, food stalls and games, with all proceeds going to charity.
German flavour: Something you may not expect in Lanzarote is Oktoberfest. For a week in October, Puerto del Carmen hosts Germany’s legendary event with live music, stalls and costumes, not forgetting hearty jugs of German beer and plenty of bratwurst.
