Weather & Climate

Temperature: Can reach a sweltering 37°C between June and August

Best time to visit Hurghada: The waters are warmest in summer, the best time for diving and snorkelling.

In Hurghada, enjoy 13 hours of sunshine each day in the summer, in a hot dry subtropical desert climate with cloudless skies. Bring plenty of sun cream and make sure you drink plenty of water. Even in December and January, enjoy seven hours of sunshine a day, with average highs of 22°C and the sea warm enough to swim – but bring layers for cold nights. Be prepared for strong winds in March.

Getting Around

By microbus: Flag down a white microbus and hop on board to travel around Hurghada cheaply. There are no fixed stops, but the routes are fixed – just make sure the driver knows where you want to get off.

By taxi:There are plenty of taxis, though it’s wise to agree the price in advance and don’t pay anything until you have reached your destination. It’s also advisable to have plenty of change, and ask at your hotel what the fare should be.

By hire car: If you’re planning to hire a car, don’t forget your International Driving Permit.

Events

For hobby anglers: Just as the winter ends, February sees the Hurghada Fishing Competition attract anglers from around the world in a prime contest.

Open-air clubs From June, the resort gets into its stride and the summer fun begins – open-air clubs and beach parties mean that your nightlife is under a blanket of stars.

Watersports: In October, the International Yacht Racing & Water Skiing Festival celebrates the amazing watersports skills in the resort.

Religious festivals: The fasting month Ramadan won’t affect the resort of Hurghada as much as throughout the rest of the country. However straight afterwards, the festivals of Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha see Egyptian families travel en masse to resorts, which will mean Hurghada and its surrounding region get busy.
