No trip to Zante is complete without exploring its watery wonders. Why not do it in style on board a glass-bottomed boat? Most of these run daily - and frequently throughout the day - from Skinari, found in the north of the island. Many tours will combine a visit to the soft sands of Navagio Beach and inside the famous Blue Caves, where you can witness the “magic” of their colour-changing waters. Make sure you set out early in the day – morning is the best time to see the caves’ water change from translucent to dark blue and back again.

One of the top attractions in Zante is its lively clubbing scene. Known as Greece’s summer party central, the resort of Laganas truly knows how to keep the buzz going night and day. Foam-parties, beach-parties and all-nighter club-events will have you spoilt for choice. Grab a fish-bowl and your friends and dance the night away at Rescue Club, the largest club in the whole of Zante as well as the Ionian islands.

Similarly to the rest of Greece, fresh, organic produce is the staple of Zakynthians. Meat lovers will love the island’s signature dish, Zakynthino stifado, a rabbit stew slowly simmered with aromatic herbs and stuffed with lumps of Zante’s regional cheese (ladotyri). Matured in olive oil and with a distinctively spicy flavour, ladotyri is often enjoyed by locals with a glass of Zante’s white wine Verdea. Most places to go in Zante are bound to satisfy your sweet tooth too; don’t miss out on trying the island’s traditional treats: chewy, nougat-and-honey based madolato and mouth-watering madoles (crunchy caramelised almonds).

Apart from being a party playground for grown-ups, Laganas also offers some of the most exciting things for kids to do in Zante. Laganas Beach, along with its 6 neighbouring beaches, is home to the Carretta-Caretta sea-turtle. Head for some sea-turtle-spotting during the day but note that access restrictions are put in place on certain parts of the beaches at night time; this is to avoid the disturbance of the nightly laying of baby sea-turtle eggs. You’re also likely to spot one of the world’s rarest mammals, the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus-Monachus, which has also selected Zante’s cosy caves and crystal-clear waters as its home.
