The Hoover Dam is one of the engineering miracles of the modern world. Completed in just a few years, at the time of opening in 1935 it was the world's largest electric power plant and the world’s largest concrete structure. Believe it or not, but some of the concrete is still rumoured to be settling! In any case, this is a magnificent structure and a testament to human invention. This popular Grand Canyon tour is perhaps better suited to the fainter of heart, as it entails a leisurely drive from Las Vegas to the canyon via the Hoover Dam. On the way you'll learn about the history of the Indian peoples that lived and roamed this region and through whose territory the Grand Canyon passes. When you arrive, the Hualapai tribe will treat you to a barbecue lunch on the canyon rim. For an additional fee you can also venture out onto the Grand Canyon West Sky Walk, the recently built, overhanging, glass viewing platform.
