Reasons To Choose Eurostar

Paris is now only 2 hours 15 mins away from London via Eurostar’s high-speed train link.  And with departure points including St Pancras, Ebbsfleet and Ashford International, a quick dart through the Channel Tunnel brings you out into the French countryside and on towards destinations including Paris, Lille, Brussels and Bruges.

Total journey time is comparable to travelling by air - and the much lower carbon emissions means that travelling by train is actually ten times as environmentally friendly as travelling by air!

But are there any more great reasons to use Eurostar?  We’ve listed our top ten, so read on!

Journey Times

Journey times via Eurostar

A quick and convenient option for people travelling to France or Belgium, Eurostar will carry you at speeds of up to 186mph, which means London to Paris is reachable in just over 2 hours, comparable of course with total times spent travelling from airport to airport.  Plus travelling by Eurostar produces around a tenth of the CO2 produced by flying - and as carbon emissions are offset, a Eurostar journey is actually carbon neutral!

Leisure Select

Leisure Select

Eurostar's Leisure Select is an upgrade from standard service and offers spacious reclining seats with generous legroom in a roomy air-conditioned carriage. Meals, snacks soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are included, and all are conveniently served directly to you. Look out for free upgrades to Leisure Select on many tickets booked through Thomas Cook, because this really is the very best way of travelling by Eurostar.

Convenience

A relaxing journey

Have you ever flown into an airport, only to find that getting to any places of interest is still a train ride or a long taxi drive away?  Standing in queues for taxis, and getting from airport to city centre eats into your valuable holiday time, which is why travelling by Eurostar beats flying every time.  There’s no better way to enjoy a relaxing journey, then arrive at your destination in the city centre itself, all refreshed and ready to start your holiday.

Paris

Arc de Triomphe, Paris, France

Paris is quite simply one of the world’s greatest cities with its breathtaking sights & attractions, top-class restaurants & bars, and an irresistible atmosphere that is sophisticated, cosmopolitan and, of course, romantic.  But more than that, Paris itself has what the French themselves call je ne sais pas; that indefinable quality that has for centuries inspired writers, artists, romantic couples and visitors from all over the world.  For culture, architectural beauty, history and gastronomy; Paris is hard to beat.

Lille

The stunning city of Lille, France

Packed with style and charm, Lille has firmly established itself as a favourite short break destination.  At its centre, the extravagant Grand Place is a colourful mix of chic shops, restaurants and pavement cafes - ideal for a break for sightseeing, enjoying a refreshing beer or for people watching.  Only 1 hour 20 minutes from London by Eurostar, Lille is perfect for a quick getaway.

Disneyland Resort Paris

Travel by train to Disneyland Resort Paris

Just a few miles outside Paris, Disneyland Resort Paris is - with more visitors than the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre put together - the greatest tourist attraction in France.  Jam-packed with truly amazing themed rides, fantastic shows, and awesome parades featuring everyone’s favourite Disney characters to suit children of every age.  Disneyland Park itself features Main Street USA, Adventureland, Discoveryland, Fantasyland & Frontierland, whilst Walt Disney Studios Park features the showbiz delights Toon Studio, Front Lot, Backlot & Production Courtyard.

Brussels

The Atomium at Brussels, Belgium

Brussels' mind-boggling choice of museums, unique sights and almost 2,000 restaurants attracts visitors from all over the world.  Add to that extraordinary sights such as the majestic Grand-Place, the world-famous 'Atomium' and the cheekiest of Europe’s statues; the Mannikin-Pis.  Yet even with such a profusion of local culture, Brussels is one Europe's smallest capitals with a central area compact enough to explore on foot.

Bruges - Via a Simple Change at Brussels Midi

Beautiful Bruges, Belgium

300 years ago, Bruges was a major port where rich cloth merchants built large houses with beautiful architecture along the sides of its canals and squares.  Happily for today's visitors, Bruges’ canals, cobbled squares, grand churches and red brick houses with gabled roofs have survived almost unchanged in centuries. It's a charming city with many cultural gems including more than 80 picturesque canal bridges that all add to the Olde Worlde atmosphere.

Antwerp - Via a Simple Change at Brussels Midi

The pretty town of Antwerp, Belgium

Antwerp is a charming town full of fascinating architecture bearing bygone whispers of the city’s dominance as European port in centuries past.  As Belgium’s second city, Antwerp’s reputation on the world’s stage is as one of the premier diamond processing centres of the world, cutting & setting millions of stones every year.  So as you’d perhaps expect, this is a wealthy and impressive-looking metropolis, and whereas perhaps not as Olde Worlde as some other cities on the Belgian tourist trail, Antwerp does boast a rather fine line in the cosmopolitan, flashy and stylish that is well worth checking out.

Ghent - Via a Simple Change at Brussels Midi

Ghent, Belgium

In contrast to Antwerp, Ghent has preserved its medieval heritage with seemingly more historic buildings here than the rest of Belgium put together, that silently overlook beautiful waterways, quaint cobbled streets and speciality restaurants tucked away in back streets in this atmospheric town.  St Bravo’s Cathedral, a Renaissance masterpiece with workmanship that will take one’s breath away, is the centrepiece to Ghent’s Medieval backdrop, which, together with a very pleasant bustling nightlife provides charming surroundings that are ideal for a restful city break.
