2nd visit to this hotel and going back again.
Great hotel where we spent two week in August then again 1 week over New Year the festivities were fantastic the staff could not do enough for their guests nothing is too much trouble, they make such a fuss of the children, and make sure everyone is having a nice holiday. We are already planning our next trip to Medina Solaria.
What we did like was he fact that we met so many people from so many different countries and cultures who all got on so well, sadly the only people that were a problem were Brits!!!!!

Not A Five Star Hotel - Food Poor
My wife and I love Tunisia for a weeks break when you can simply enjoy the fantastic weather. Yes, there is not much to do in Yasmin Hammamet, but that does not bother us, so long as the weather, the hotel and the food is good or better. This was our first and our last stay at Solaria as there are better Iberostar hotels in Tunisia. As others have said this is not a five star hotel it is almost a four. but probably a three and a half star. I have stayed in many five star hotels throughout the world and this is certainly not up to that standard.
We got off to bad start upon arrival, as despite our flight being delayed by 90 minutes, we were kept waiting in reception for 45 minutes while the receptionist found us a room. It would have been longer if I had not lost my patience and 'let rip' at the desk clerk, (he remembered me all holiday after that!). That is not five star service!
Our room was 4038, and overlooked the arena. It was clean modern and was nicely furnished, but five star hotels have antique or good reproduction furniture. They also have enough cloth hangers in the wardrobe and also a wardrobe tall enough to hold my wife's long dresses without them dragging on the floor. The bath and shower were good, the bed comfortable but the air conditioning very poor. The temperature in the room never got below 20', so most nights we had to have the windows open to get some kind of breeze to keep us cool. Five star hotels have excellent and consistent air conditioning, such that it can sometimes be too cold in your room! Not at Solaria. Equally, the air con in the public rooms was not great and I suspect that the management are cost cutting.
That said the public rooms are clean and well furnished and most staff helpful. We had an excellent restaurant waiter who I tipped £20 (50 dinars) on departure and a good maid who I tipped 20 dinars. (I do believe that tipping in Tunisia is very important - why are so many British so tight when it comes to tipping?. Airport luggage porters are brilliant just for a £1 tip).
The biggest disappointment this holiday was the quality and choice of hot food in the restaurant. The salads were brilliant, but you can't survive on salads alone for one week. The hot food looked, tasted and was stored like school dinners! Some hot food, such as lasagne was stored off hot plates at temperatures below 68' and this is a health hazard. There were a lot of dishes recycled day after day, such as sardines, chicken and beef. After five days we decided to eat out and this was an added expensive as we were on all inclusive package. We wanted more choice and better quality and we found that at the restaurants around the marina.
Sorry, Thomas Cook, but Iberostar Solaria but you have a long way to go to get near to five stars!

Intimidating staff members and Dismissive
Most staff were great! I'd say very friendly however the staff selling the SPA & Excursions packages are very rude!! After not taking upon there offer there attitude towards us had changed! making it very awkward also one of the reception staff was very dismissive towards me. I'd been sold a safe on a deposit of 20dinars and after checking out I tried to receive my 20dinars back and he told for the first time that i'd be charged something like 3dinars each night of my stay so I basically wasn't getting my deposit back and I explained to him he hadn't sold me the safe properly. He was on his own mobile phone at the same time when giving me the the safe key and code!
The Animation team where very friendly towards the start of our stay but near towards the end this changed! While having dinner we were all given cards to fill out to review 'Iberostar Solaria'
and my girlfriend had given the animation team a score of 'Good' and one of the animation staff came up leering over my girlfriends card to see what she had put down and asked her to change it and explain herself for not scoring a very good. This was very intimidating.
Room was kept tidy everyday, one small problem the bath itself could of been in better condition.
The food was average mostly just european dishes on our last they served tunisian food and it was excellent and I just wish they had this more throughout our stay! I'd say the pasta station wasn't very hygienic and not very good if you have allergies. There would be a choice of two pasta sauces and a choice of toppings. So the cook would pop your pasta onto a pan and cook away and this is the bit that worried me he would use the same pan that was used before yourself so you could be getting bits of food that you didn't want.
The hotel pool area was lovely, kept very clean and had a great bar with brilliant service! The animation team would have music organised some of the playlists were relaxing some not very appropriate for the pool side. There was darts, a table tenis table and a tennis court.
Night time at hotel... well there's a bar so you can go there and also a club across the road. If your not into either of you's well theres not much else. You could take a walk up to the madina but be prepared to get hassled I can't stress how bad it is!!
ps. The beach is far from clean!!

Been there, going back to Tunisia
We went from 4th to 18th November. The experience with Thomas Cook from the booking in Weston Super Mare (three months before) to the coming home at Bristol Airport was excellent. The Hotel Iberostar Solaria itself was fantastic from the staff in the bar and restaurant to the cleaning staff - all helpful, cheerful and friendly. The weather in Tunisia for November is changeable. Our first week was beautiful, warm and sunny and the second week changed into storms but still warm. We will be booking again for the same Hotel in May. Thank you from Pam & Bill.

This hotel came well recommended, the hotel was a large hotel typical for the resort but the pool is grossly exaggerated in the picture. The picture of the beach shows lovely golden sand but fails to tell you that their are huge piles of camel dung on it and that there is a problem with seaweed in the sea due to it's location close to the marina. Oh and its across a road, which is large but not too busy. Our room was pleasant and cleaned daily. The worst aspect of all, however was the food, whilst the cakes and pastries were nice, the rest was luke warm and tasteless. The sun shone so that was the highlight of the holiday.

Lovely place to spend a holiday
We stayed at this hotel in late April 2012 after booking in October 2011. Every aspect of the hotel was pleasing, from the warm welcome from the staff to the bright airy bedroom over looking the pool. The hotel is well appointed being situated in the middle of the cornich with the beach just 10 meters from the hotel exit. The public rooms were all clean and well decorated with plenty of seating.
The food was varied and plentiful and the staff helpful and happy to assist. The pool had lots of sunbeds and seating and there was never a scramble to get a place. We have stayed in the resort before and have found this hotel to be one of the best.
