went for a quiet relaxing holiday and it turned out far from it. the hotel was taken over by locals, taking sun loungers, eating the food and taking over the pool making it difficult to swim. the entertainment was very poor and their shows appalling. they did not make an effort with us at anytime and this was made obvious on our last day when I was asked if I had just arrived. he was obviously very embarrassed when I said we were leaving the next day! We tried several times to use the free water boats (pedallos and kayak) but was turned down as the free one was in use... leaving unused ones on the sand. it seems that the staff will only give good service if you tip them before they do anything not after. if you wanted a cushion for a sun lounger we were told we had to give the pool man a dinar, we refused and my husband made sure we got one anyway but you had to be up early to get them....

Enjoyable holiday service let it down
Stayed at smartline Skanes Serail in May 14 for 7 nights. Arrived on early flight, transfer was approx 1hr with drops at other hotels but passed quickly. Advised by rep that rooms would not be ready for a couple of hours but only waited around 30 mins which was fine. Some rooms have been renovated to a very high standard, the hotel does have air con but this is not switched on until high season, the temp whilst we were there was up to high 30's which did make it hot on a night! Rooms cleaned everyday with fresh towels etc. Food - Very repetitive like most all inclusive, was not great but never went without. You could book Italian, Tunisian and a BBQ style dinner once during your stay, Italian was very nice and the BBQ, we did not go to the Tunisian. Drinks - always flat and the spirits not very nice at all you only get water in plastic cups but we just filled bottles from the cooler. The major down side to the hotel unfortunately was some of the staff. They were very rude slamming drinks down at the bar and ignoring you in the restaurant. We did make the rep aware who was great, she spoke to the hotel as she had seem similar reviews and hopefully this will improve. This hotel has nothing around it, you cant go for a walk on a night for example you need to get taxis to other resorts however these are very cheap. Pool and beach very nice maintained well. . Thomas Cook very good flight outbound was early, inbound was delayed due to a medical incident which is out of their hands, fantastic crew and great captain. Would recommend the African Dream excursion through Thomas Cook enjoyed by all. For a cheap beach break it was enjoyable weather was beautiful and hotel comfortable.

You get a great deal for very little cost and marvelous weather.
We were in The Serail in September 2013. We really enjoyed it. Quiet when you wanted it and busy if you preferred. The entertainment team always made you laugh, great fun, never without a smile. Food as to be expected, average but you wouldn't starve and they do cook fresh at every meal. Omelettes and crepes were fab. We will go again.
For those who moan.? Get a life! for this price, the beautiful weather and the great staff it's a bargain break.
Thanks. Carol and Tony.
