Top 10 Panorama Holiday Spots

As a specialist tour operator to North Africa, Panorama know what it takes to make a great holiday, whether it's visiting the magnificent Great Pyramid, taking a camel trek in the Sahara desert or cruising down the river Nile. Here's our pick of the best Panorama holidays.

Sahara Desert, Tunisia

The world’s largest desert, and bigger than Australia, the Sahara covers almost 40 per cent of Tunisia, encompassing much of the south of the country. Douz, a small town in the south-central Tunisia, often referred to as the ‘gateway to the Sahara’, is the ideal place to catch the sun rising over the desert. To the west of Douz is Chott el-Jerid, a vast salt lake and the location of the original Star Wars film. All of this and more is available in Panorama’s desert safari tour, ‘Journey into the Sahara’.

El Djem, Tunisia

El Djem is a small Tunisian town in the Mahdia region, famous for its Roman amphitheatre. Built in the 3rd century by the then Roman Emperor and seating 35,000 spectators, it's the third largest theatre in the world, and possibly the most impressive Roman monument in Africa. Stones from the amphitheatre were used to help build the town of El Djem until the ruins were declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. Scenes from Monty Python’s Life of Brian were shot here and Tunisia holidays are not complete without a visit.

Tunisia Holidays

The Giza Plateau, Egypt

The Great Pyramid of Egypt is one of the most inspiring monuments ever created by man, and the three pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure combine to create one of the most recognisable and breathtaking complexes in the world. Add to that a visit to the mysterious Sphinx, carved out of the local bedrock, and you have a genuine once in a lifetime experience.

Egypt Holidays

Cairo, Egypt

A magical cacophony of hustle and bustle, especially if you’re anywhere near the wondrous mayhem of the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar - a cacophony of sounds, sights and smells that form the backdrop to continuous haggled deals. Be sure to put at least half a day aside for a visit to Egypt's world-famous Cairo Museum, home to (among countless other treasures) the solid gold Mask of Tutankhamun.

Egypt Holidays

The River Nile, Egypt

There’s no better way to enjoy the magisterial beauty of the world’s best-known river than to lie back on a luxury cruise ship and watch the Egyptian landscape meander by. Top of the destination list of any Nile Cruise has to be the southerly city of Aswan. Check out the Aswan Museum on Elephantine Island and be sure you don’t miss another awesome Egyptian stone-built giant – the frighteningly huge Aswan Dam.

Red Sea Cruising, Egypt

Sharm el Sheikh

Discover the wonders of the Red Sea with this harmonious balance of conventional cruising with the intimacy of a private yacht. Egypt Holidays

Marrakech, Morocco

Here, beneath the starry North African skies, the Djemma el-Fna has been the pulsating heart of Marrakech since the 12th-centry. They say this huge open-air bazaar of a square is never empty, and it’s certainly a good example of Morocco’s joyous unpredictability. Snake charmers and street food, stalls and scents create and intoxicating experience. Marrakech draws you under its spell.

Morocco Holidays

High Atlas, Morocco

Trek the steep rocky trails around North Africa’s highest peak, Djebel Toubkal, or hike the challenging Todra Gorge. There are precious few destinations in the world that offer the chance to scale snowy peaks so close to the arid sands of the desert – in Morocco you can. Take Panorama’s ‘Enchanting Escape into Magical Morocco’ tour to experience the mountains of Morocco for yourself.

Don’t miss the chance to travel in Kenya's Tsavo National Park, though the Masai Mara National Reserve, and further south to see the animals against the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Safari evenings are memorable too, spent unwinding around the lodge under star-studded skies as you discuss your day’s adventures.
