Great family holiday in Spain
The main attraction of this hotel was the proximity and access to the fantastic Portaventura theme park.
The hotel is a clean, well run establishment though admittedly it could do with some TLC.
The rooms at the hotel were adequate for our needs which were a place to sleep and to get out of the early afternoon heat with good air con. However, compared with rooms at other 4 star properties, the ones at the Hotel El Paso fall short. Very small balcony, no fridge, etc.
The communal areas are well staffed with a good level of service provided - though you should note that the bars close as soon as the theme park shuts (i.e. 11.30pm or midnight). The food is of a good standard and caters for all - though the al a carte restaurant again doesn't meet the same heights as other similar properties (though it was nice to be waited on at a table rather than collect from the buffet).
The pool is clean though the cannons on the pirate ship need a little work done to them as only 2 were operable (out of 4) by the time we departed.
Evening entertainment was fine though aimed at younger children (which suited us with a 4 yr old son).
As mentioned the theme park and water park are the main reason we chose this hotel - the theme park is excellent and we would recommend the fast pass if you love to go on the rides (maximum waiting time was 10 mins compared with queues in excess of an 1hr on most of the larger rises). The water park was also excellent (though very busy) - this is not icnluded in the package though guest at the Hotel El Paso receive a 30% discount from the walk-up price.
Overall, I would rate the hotel facilities at 3* though with the access to the parks the holiday as 5*.

Fantastic family resort
There is so much to do at Port Aventura that there was never a dull moment. Amazing rides and shows. The water park was brilliant. The hotel facilities were excellent (pool, restaurant and bar). The food was lovely but if I was going to be very picky I would say that there were only 3 restaurants in the park which served food as part of the all inclusive package. This was a little bit inconvenient because when it came to getting drinks for the children we were usually a distance away and they did not serve light snacks (only set 3 courses with little choice for vegetarians). The entertainment at the hotel was ok but repetitive, we were fed up of seeing the same people doing the same acts but saying that it was a bit of a relief because we were so busy during the day it was good to call it a night early. This is excellent value for money and I would recommend it 100% if you love being on the go, doing theme and water parks and seeing shows etc. We absolutely loved it and after 2 weeks still didn't want to come home.

Fantastic family holiday!!!!!
I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 8 year old daughter in July 2012. I thought this holiday was fantastic. My daughter loved it and is eager to go back next year as are we. I would really recommend this holiday. The fact that you have unlimited access to Portaventura theme park is excellent. We went to see the parade on our last night and it was out of this world. The queues are not as bad as we thought, although I would recommend going later in the day if you are staying nearby as it is quieter and lot cooler. The hotel was lovely and good choice of food, also drink, ice creams s etc for the whole family which were included, we were situated near the pool which was great. All in an excellent family holiday.

The only down side was evening entertainment my kids are 7,9 so mini disco not cool anymore, also family entertainment very repetative bearing in mind we were only staying a week. Food was good lots to choose from. Would recommend this holiday.

Family holiday to Port Aventura
The resort and facilities were fine.
The food was good with a good selection. The drinks selection was good for all inclusive.
The staff at the bars and restaurant were good and helpful.
Good selection of sunbeds.
At night time there was only one bar open at night times and even though the bar staff worked very hard it still ended up queued 3 or 4 deep at the bar. There is one filter coffee machine at night time for the whole complex so while it is good there was usually quite a queue.
You are given a theme park drinks cup each when you arrive so it is best to use these at the bar especially for the kids.
During the day the kids can help themselves to drinks and ice at the Club Maya pool cafe. Some ice creams are free but crisps and other ice creams need paying for.
Once the bar closes at 11.30 there are no facilities for drinks (even soft drinks or water) or food until breakfast.
We found the reception staff not very helpful at all for any enquiry. The hotel and theme park information we were given was in Spanish. We had to ask the rep to speak to reception to get a fresh set.
You are asked to select breakfast time slot for every day of your holiday and the staff don't like you turning up at the wrong time if you sleep in. Due to the time we checked in most of the prime time slots for breakfast had gone when we got there so we had a choice of very early(7.30) or later (10am) than we wanted. We didn't find it very easy to change at reception as they kept saying there was no other availability come back tomorrow.
The kids entertainers worked hard to try and entertain the kids. There was only one person on duty so if the kids were late in the queue for facepainting or balloon creations they could miss out.
The photographs with the cartoon characters again there is a time limit for photos so if you are late in the queue the kids miss out.
Our youngest child was 3 1/2 but they have a minimum age limit of 4 for the kids club so she couldn't use it.
We had a child of 14 and child of 3. As the oldest one was over 50kg they wouldn't give us a room with bunk beds the kids had to share a double bed which we were unaware of when we booked.
The room was small and the two double beds were pushed together in the room so all 4 of us slept in close proximity which I found disappointing for a 4* hotel.
We enquired through the rep about the possibility of an extra adjoining room and was told it would be an extra 185 euro/night.
The beds in the room were very hard with thin pillows. I woke up aching every morning.
Overall room accomodation was disappointing for a 4* we have found the same standard in a 2* in Greece.
The adjoining room have doors and we found it quite noisy we could hear the other family in the next room talking.
The rooms do come with complimentary safe, air con and tv.
The price for cigarettes at the bar was very reasonable not far away from tobacconists prices.

We arrived in el paso on May 25th 2010. From the very start to the end of our holiday was just amazing
Our flights were on time, the time travelling was just right especially when you have young kids. The transfer time from the hotel was great only 15 min on the coach. Checking in at the hotel was good also and only took about 10 min. El paso is a beautiful hotel and lives up to its 4 star rating. The staff were friendly and helpful, our rooms were basic but clean. The food was out of this world! a varied choice of meals from pastas, salads, to local produce, all meats, fry ups, you name it, it was there. There was also a choice of pastries, cakes and desserts, fabulous! The pool was good especially the young childrens pool, but very cold. The weather in May is said to be fine but do expect some rain, it rained there a few times but quickly cleared up. The nightly entertainment was ok, it was outdoors on a platform, the kids will love it as it had a range of characters from betty boo, cookie monster and all the characters from sesame street, woody woodpecker and winney woodpecker the kids loved it. The entertainment ranged from the mini disco, flamenco dancers to alice in wonderland. There is a small bus that looks like a train beware though as it will take you into salou town but for 3 euros for adults and 1.50 euros for children but thats one way!!! We also went to Nou Camp in Barcelona it cost around 83 euros for one adult and child. The camp wasnt very impressive as the trophy room was getting refurbished, Barcelona town was amazing there were lots of stalls and street performers which were funny but beware of pickpockets who can either dress casual or smart, Anyway we had a brilliant holiday and i would recommend this for any family. My kids were 4 and 11.
