Most relaxing holiday
From arrival to departure at the Sol Lanzarote all the staff were very cheerful and helpful. My husband and I were looking for a relaxing holiday and this was the ideal location. The accommodation was very spacious, clean and fresh. We were staying on the All Inclusive board basis, the food was always well presented, tasty and plenty of variety to suit all tastes, show cooking of meat and fish at both lunch and dinner. Most of the accommodation is outside of the main hotel building, with access along the pathway leading from the pool area, there are a couple of slopes to be encountered which for anyone with mobility or breathing problems could cause problems, otherwise ideal for couples and families alike. As this resort is close to Arrecife, the transfer time is about 10-15 mins. so you don't waste time travelling too far.
The beach is 2 mins. away just across the promenade which runs right along the coast line, it's traffic-free except for cycles and the occasional police car. A short walk takes you to the flight path of the incoming planes and is a popular stroll, in the other direction a stroll for about 30 mins takes you to the usual holiday/souvenir shops, doctors, pharmacy and restaurants. A couple of minutes from the hotel is a small shopping/restuarant area with a wide selection of eateries; english, irish, chinese, japenese, indian etc. All in all a superb location and hotel, we will be going back.

Great holiday at Lanzarote
eryI had an excellent holiday at Sol Lanzarote hotel in Lanzarote, The staff were very helpful (on top of the job all the time). Great location for the beach. Stayed on an all inclusive basis; food was very good with plenty of choices from around the world. Cleanliness all around the complex was very good.

lovely hotel right on beach front
stayed with my 2 daughters and my one year old grandson, we all had a great time ideal for children and adults. setting was great right on the promanade, walking distance to the larger puerto del carmen takes about 30mins along the prom,we loved this hotel and holiday thinking of going back soon

Somewhat isolated hotel if not going all inclusive
This holiday was taken in the hope of getting away for a cheap week in the sun. Unfortunately for us, the sun wasn't out much and weather was very overcast with lots of cloud and rain most days, it was first week of November though so better than the UK! Is was possible to sit out at the pool for a few hours over midday, that was however if it was possible to bag a sun lounger. The latter not an easy task when the german guests get up at 6am to put towels down, no joke I've never seen anything like it! We stayed self catering and the apartment was well equipped and absolutely spotlessly clean, our cleaner was in daily and really good. The hotel complex itself is big and set out for AI guests, couple of good supermarkets within 2 minutes walk which is handy but the main resort of Puerto del Carmen is 4 miles away, took us 1hr15mins to walk there, flat seaside promenade the whole way. Taxi costs about 4 euro each way, taxis plentiful and clean. Resort centre is really tacky but some nice restuarants amoung the bruck. This island reflects nothing of 'real' spanish culture or food so do go if you want a cheap package to the sun but don't set your expectations very high.

Large hotel at end of Matagorda resort. Restaurants near by but not as cheap as I hoped. Hotel drinks pricey as we didn't go all inclusive. Despite us being self catering, room cleaned every day, towels changed etc (very good). Didn't go in pool but looked ok for a splash although full of kids so not ideal for a gentle float!! Beach right outside the hotel gate - watch the massive waves if you aren't a great swimmer or have kids. Liked the hotel but wouldn't return because I didn't like Lanzarote.

Disappointed in some areas
On the whole we had a good holiday but it was marred by various aspects.
1. Poor service in restaurant. Restaurant not big enough for number of clientel and often had to wait for table.
2. Dress for dinner said NO SHORTS. There were far too many people doing just that and the management didn't seem to bother! We like to dress for dinner and this attitude really spoilt the atmosphere.
3. Three pools, one for children. Surely one of them could have been for adults only.
The location was ideal for us being in a very quiet area and right on the beach. This, coupled with fabulous weather, meant we had a good holiday but we would not return to this hotel unless we knew the above issues had been dealt with.

I have previously used Thomas Cook to travel, both in a package deal and flights only. On this one occasion, my husband and I traveled with my father. Therefore there were three in our party. When I booked the Sol I thought that I was booking two rooms but in actuality I booked an apartment. I looked at the apartments on the web site and the additional "room" was a sitting room with a sofa with a sliding paperthin door! Therefore I wanted to change my booking to two rooms. When I called your company, I was told that due to the fact that it was a package holiday there was nothing that they could do - they absolutely refused to change my booking. I was then told that I needed to contact the Sol directly, which I did. They told me that as this was a Thomas Cook booking I had to make any changes to my through them. Lucia at the Sol did say that I may be able to downgrade the apartment and that I could then book another room for my father. I then rang Thomas Cook and again I was told that I could change anything on my booking as it was a package. I was willing to pay any additional fees incurred to change my booking but yet again your staff were so unflexible they wouldn't help me. I've worked in the travel industry and I know your staff should have some sort of rapour with the resorts you represent and if they do not, they should! I know that you have agreements in place with the resorts, but at the end of the day, the customers holiday should be at the top of your list, considering that's what you specialise in. In the end we kept the apartment and booked an addiitional room when we arrived at the hotel which cost over £400 for the week, not a very good start to our holiday. In addition to the aforementioned, the head cabin steward was the most obnoxious, loud and completely out of line. We were on the 7 am flight out of Belfast and you can imagine how tired everyone was. All she wanted to do was sell, sell, sell in a VERY LOUD tone. Everytime we were about to fall asleep she was, yet again, coming up and down the aisles trying to sell the passengers something. Again, not a very good start to a holiday. I was less harrassed to buy items in Lanzarote then I was on your plane!!! I'm sure that's not the reputation you were hoping for - bleed your customers dry.
