Overview

With sunshine for 340 days a year, and an average temperature of 22 degrees Centigrade, the resort of Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria is a popular choice for sun-seeking Brits. In fact, it's the hottest resort on Gran Canaria's south coast, and offers a busy marina, 2 sandy beaches (one with watersports) and lots of restaurants, bars and shops.

Puerto Rico climbs steeply up the sides of the hills that surround it, so some areas may not be suitable for those who'll find the hike a challenge. Down towards the picturesque harbour there's a tidy promenade with bars and cafes and, when the sun goes down, there are two commercial centres offering everything from karaoke to curry.
