"Nice hotel but impersonal"
We stayed at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras for 2 weeks. Overall 1st impressions were very good, impressive driveway leading up to the hotel and the lobby area very nice. A line formed at the reception desk though, there did not appear enough staff on here ever, especially to provide a service to over 1000 rooms.
The pool areas and grounds are stunning, the infinity pool is beautiful and although the hotel is massive, you do not feel like everyone is tripping over each other whilst outside. The letdown here is that many of the sunbeds were in shaded areas as the grounds are full of trees. The hotel says that it adopts a no tolerance policy on reserving sunbeds but this was clearly not adhered to, everyday the same people would hog the beds in the sun. I mentioned this to reception and nothing was done.
The corridors of the hotel are getting shabby, wallpaper is peeling and carpets are fraying, these areas could do with a refirb. The rooms in general are nice, bathrooms too, it's just a shame the furniture is so cheap looking, it's plywood, not what you expect from a 4 star hotel. Staff in this hotel seemed sometimes friendly, overall not always engaging. Some servers were lovely, including the lady that greets you at breakfast, others did not engage with their guests at all, they seemed overworked and stressed alot of the time. I am not used to this as I usually use Riu Palace hotels and their staff are all very well trained in customer service and even the maids and cleaners engage with the guests, here at Lopesan it was not like that. Many of the staff seemed too stressed to have time to talk to their customers, again the sheer size of this hotel does not help, it is too large and impersonal.
Food...the food was good overall, although food safety issues with several of the chefs using the same tongs to handle raw chicken and cooked chicken etc, not good hygiene! Plus the eggs at breakfast were never cooked correctly.
The gym...well there is a free one which has no cardio equipment at all and very old equipment. There is also a gym (part of the spa) that you can pay for. I paid for a series of sessions here. Whilst I was using this gym I had paid for I was very rudely barked at by the personal trainer who told me I could not use the power plate, very embarrassing for me. At no point had anyone explained to me that I could not use certain pieces of equipment when they took my money! )they now have a sign since my complaint!) The Spa was out of use whilst I stayed here so I could not use it. The Jacuzzi on one of the decks was out of use also and so was one of tge restaurants.
Location of this hotel is great. Overall this hotel is a nice property, personally I feel it is too large and not for me so I would not return here. There are also things that need to be addressed as I have mentioned. I will use one of the Riu Palaces next time I return.

great hols in gran canary
another great visit to costa meloneras hotel .this was our 9th time at this hotel.everything g8t.food still brill, staff cant do enough for you.special mention to edwardoe head waiter in restaurant very nice chap.location right by the lighthouse and prom.pools g8t plenty of them and beautiful gardens.we will be back again next year

Flight out in an old plan which should have been grounded .
This hotel is impressive from external view point . However so big you are given a map at reception to find your room . We were given a standard room with no view which was ok but what they don't tell you is that the view will be of a generator/ bottle bank going 24/7 . After making a complaint with Thomas Cook and the hotel had to pay 108 euros for a quieter room even though we explained room not fit for purpose . Nicky the rep attended infrequently and when she did not able to provided info on hotel or help with compliant although she promised to come back to us .
Will never book a Thomas cook holiday again we are still waiting to hear back re complaint .

Wonderful holiday at Costa Meloneras
Fantastic hotel, brilliant service, buffet restaurants are excellent. Lots of swimming pools to pick from and very close to the beach. Highly recommend this hotel.

We had been to Gran Canaria many times and have always stayed in a 5* hotel. However I had always been impressed by the look of the Costa Melonares so we decided to give it a try.
We travelled in April 2012 for our wedding anniversary and had emailed the hotel regarding a room upgrade to celebrate. When we arrived we were given a free upgrade to a wonderful room overlooking the sea.
The staff were fantastic, the cleaners were very thorough and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The food was mainly buffet, we had always had waiter service before, however we really enjoyed the food there was plenty of choice and the salads were fantastic. The buffet restaurant had themed evenings which allowed for a little experimentation on my part!
Evening entertainment was provided, early evening for the children and later for adults. Although we were personally not too bothered about this aspect of the hotel I must say that I was impressed by what I saw.
Although this hotel is classed a a 4* I would recommend it gets upgraded to a 5* as the facilities are excellent. This is a big hotel but did not feel imposing, there was plenty of room to find a little haven of our own in the well kept gardens. There were always sunbeds available however you cannot reserve a bed before 10 am, towels books etc will be removed by the pool staff - a good move by the hotel I think, although this was not always adhered to!
I recommended this hotel to my daughter and her partner and they stayed in August and also had a wonderful time.
The position is central to everything but not crowded by the town. The only downside to the hotel is that the pools were not heated and there are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms - both these I feel lets the hotel down as all other areas are fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be staying there again.
I have not bothered to upload photos as it is exactly as the pictures in the brochures depict.

excellent holiday at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras
Fab hotel, second time staying here (visted the resort 9 years running)after staying in suite last year , room was excellent.
Staff and facilities excellent, well worth a stay, booking next year hopefully a suite this time. Cannot fault it.

Great hotel, awful flights
The Lopesan Melonaras isa fantastic hotel. Location brilliant, room fantastic and food amazing. So much choice. Would definitely recommend the hotel, on the other hand cannot say the same for Thomas Cook flights. Awful does not come close to describing how bad the flights were. So cramped, noisy and hot. Next trip to Gran Canaria will have to be with a different air line. Could not stand to fly with Thomas Cook again, and that's saying something having flown with Monarch in the past to Gibraltar.

An excellent hotel with fantastic pools and gardens.
This is a large hotel but is truly relaxing and quite easy to never leave the hotel and the facilities. Lovely shops and bars are nearby and the beach are all within a 10 minute walk.
