Went to prinsohotel in Alcudia for our summer holiday but on arrival the manager informed us that it was overbooked so we were moved to another hotel in a different
location. He informed us that we could return in 2days time and as compensation he would throw in half board as we had only gone self catering so we thought that was fair enough. The hotel we were moved to was really beautiful and the food was lovely, really fresh and plenty to choose from. On our return we were given an apartment on the top floor as i had requested a room with a view but as i dont like heights this was not suitable. We were moved to the ground floor but i have to say that we constantly had a terrible smell day and night that smelt like a blocked toilet-uhh!!!!!. The hotel is situated next to a nature reserve but i have bigger reserves as it looked and smelt like a sewer plant. The food was horrible and soon became apparant, that what was served the day before was on the menu for breakfast. I would also say that the food was more aimed at the Germans!!!. It was also cold and just about edible so i dont really think that it was compensation- more given away. I also soon noticed that there was a lot more people turning up and being sent away for the same reason but only those that had booked self catering so was given the same poor compensation and excuses. Why is this hotel so over booked when you do it through Thomas cook. The other complaint i have with this hotel is that although it is so close to the beach, it is much further then the 10MINS it quotes in the brochure to the main part of Alcudia. Personally i would recommend this hotel and location to those that have young children or older people as there is hardly any entertainment and everyone seems to be in bed by 10pm. I wouldn't not recommend but at the same time i wouldn't rush out to go there. I would say also that it is more geared towards the Germans!!!!!!. I did go to Alcudia a couple of years ago with Thomas cook but stayed in a more central part of Alcudia and throughly enjoyed it.

Great hotel, friendly staff. Any complaint dealt with immediately (the beds in the lounge were not made up on arrival) but sorted quickly and efficiently. Lovely cle
an rooms (cleaned everyday). Good daytime entertainment around the pool for young and not so young. Evening entertainment ok, but not brilliant however entertainment staff tried hard. Only problem was that Thomas Cook rep was difficult to get hold of - would suddenly leave a note to say he wouldn't be at the complex that day..

On arrival we were greeted in a fabulous looking reception with no queues and were in our swimming gear within minutes of arrival. The rooms were strikingly decorate
d giving an exceptional first impression. The bed rooms was stunning and the bathroom facility was also excellent, unfortunately we must have had the one of only appartments without a nice view, we overlooked the rear of some nearby shops. The sizable bathrooms and bedrooms left little room for kitchen which was not sufficeintly equiped to make a meal for a family of four (the hotel seems a little more catered towards half/full board than self catering). However, the room was very very nice and besides the kitchen the only fault I can pick is that for a family of four the beds in the front room took over slightly.
There are several pools all grouped together in the centre of the complex which are excellent, all have varying depths some with jacuzzis and water features and the were never overcrowded. Always ample sunbeds to go round and space to move around to find or avoid shade as required. The entertainment staff were friendly and not over pushy in trying to get you involved in the games (not my cup of tea!) and the childrens club was there and they tried but I dont think my children were too interested. Around the pool they had a small crazy golf course and table tennis sets (Free) along with pool and air hockey to help entertain the kids. The food and drink sold at the poolsdie restaurant/cafe seemed expensive so we decided to steer a little clear of it as did that of the evening restaurant area. Their were lots of places within walking distance to eat (restaurant "Boy" - being our favourite) but we tended to prefere to head to port pollensa on the bus or into Alcudia as the location is a bit lonely and generally only surrounded by other hotel complexes. The beach of alcudia is only a two minute walk the hotel reception and is really good for children because of the calm waves and shallow waters. The only problems we all seemed to complain about was the amount of bites we received from mosquito's, I dont know whether the nearby lagoons or canals act as perfect breading ground bu I can safely say I have never been bitten with such regularity as here, the should not reflect on the accomodation... it was very clean.

Thos Cook did not start well by ignoring two emails when I tried to correct (non-critical) errors in the booking confirmation and when I asked a simple question. (Ne
ver did get any responses). The apartment and the "hotel" location were vey good. Clean, tidy and well maintained. Nice grounds and lovely range of pools for children and parents. The overall rating according to the T.C. brochure is 4+. This is an exaggeration! Although the accommodation was good the restaurant and food quality were barely 3 star, and generally below that! Several times we were given chipped and/or cracked cups. (Not acceptable in any restaurant let alone one with the "Marque of Excellence"). The food was laid out buffet style. The salad bar rarely offered any substantial "base" e.g. ham, fish, egg. The main courses were not appetisingly laid out - chicken fillets or lamb or pork chops, for example, were simply piled into their covered containers over hot water or "night lights" to try and keep them warm. Vegetables were, in the main, either tinned or cooked from frozen. I would have expected fresh. Chips were produced in a large batch which was left out under heat-lights which dried them out and made them hard. Desserts (seldom a strong point in Spanish territory) were the usual mousses, creme caramels or ice cream (which was well towards the melted stage within an hour of the restaurant opening. One day they did provide strawberries - tinned! We are not usually the complaining sort, but this was so poor and below what should be expected from the brochure awards that others should be forewarned. I hope, as the season goes on matters will improve.
