My Husband and I have just got back from this hotel today.
The location of this hotel is excellent and the beach is gorgeous, we were on the beach every day and didnt mind paying the 12euros for two sun beds every day, we much rather that, than wait for the pool to open where people had been been waiting for an hour to get to a sunbed, we have never seen that at a hotel before, the staff was very friendly, the food was good but not great didnt seem to have loads of choice and it was repeated, the restaurant didnt give you that feel that you could relax and enjoy your dinner. They also serve wine by the bottle and not by the glass, you do need to give your room number and sign every time you order drinks, but make sure it is your room number on the slip as a couple of times we got someone elses room number so someone else could get yours, the room was very basic and not the greatest room we have stayed in but was clean, there is no fridge or hairdryer in there, the bed was like a camp bed and our towels was not always changed. We didnt always get a toilet roll as well, so run out a couple of times. The best thing about the room was the view of the sea that we didnt actually pay for so was lucky with that, the entertainment is good for the kids but not great for the adults, though the staff do work hard and do a great job, plus the bar staff are great too. Overall we would come back to Cala d'Or But would stay at another hotel and maybe even go self catering. Outside the hotel was a strip of shops, bars and restaurants, was nice to walk down there after dinner.

Better than I could ever have imagined
Thomas Cook got us off to a great start with a flight that arrived half an hour early! Fabulous hotel location right on the beach. Close to all amenities too. Really friendly staff, very clean, great facilities and nice mediterranean style food. COULD NOT have been better. Thankyou.

Half term break
The hotel is clean, comfortable and in an excellent location with lots of bars, shops & entertainment in easy walking distance. The food, although plentiful, was boring at times. No changes made to presentation etc. There were no 'themed nights' as advertised and all inclusive was actually limited to the point where during certain times you had no choice but to eat in the main restaurant, even though the pool bar was open, all inclusive guests had to pay for snacks if the main restaurant was open! The entertainment on an evening was none existant or really poor (A game of Bingo was the highlight of the week & one game was stretched out for 45 minutes!) Surprisingly for a busy half term week the beach bar was closed, again limiting the facilites what we thought we'd paid for!

TOO SMALL FOR A FULL HOUSE
This was our 6th time to holiday in Cala Dor, our first at the Hotel Barcelo Ponent Playa.
The Hotel is situated on the far end of Cala Ferrera remote from the bustling centre, with great beach access down a series of steps from the sun terrace. However, this itself proved too easy for the general public who would venture up from the beach to use the hotel bar and toilet facilities, and a shared walkway at the edge of the sun terracce to the beach from another adjacent hotel.
Bit dissapointed that upon arrival the coach driver dropped us off across the road from the hotel in a lay-by, which meant quite a walk down a steep gradient with our cases to the reception area - all other coaches that we saw arrive drove straight to the reception area. Reception staff pleasant, but aloof.
Our room had a nice sea view, was clean and tidy upon arrival and was maintained that way all week by very pleasant staff.
The hotel has in excess of 700 rooms, a great number of which were occupied by the elderly during our stay, God bless SAGA, which regrettably, focuses my concerns on the hotels limitations on the available space on the front of hotel pool area and the rear of hotel sun terrace, and more importantly the availabliity of tables within the restaraunt.
Thankfully i could outrun most to the sun loungers, (wierd to find that they actually chained 2 loungers together before chaining them to the concrete) but the restaraunt proved a different task, if we had'nt timed our arrival at 6.45 in the evening to obtain a table, you formed a line at the door awaiting a table to be made available, quite lengthy some evenings as the oldies were not to be rushed into completing their turn at the buffet. Oh and the "smart casual dress" code for gentlemen at evening meals is a laugh - wear anything you like as the restaraunt manager didnt bat an eyelid and ignored guys wearing shorts, inaproprate t-shirts to flip-flops.
Having said all that, all in all we did have a great holiday, Cala D Or with its multitude of coves, bars and shops caters for all tastes and ages and a resort we would certainly go back to again, but would not stay at the Ponent Playa, there are many hotels much better overall.

this is my 3rd time at barcelo ponent playa majorca and it still offers something new - we love every thing about it - from the friendly hotel- the close proximity to the beach - to the nooks and crannys of the hotel where you can sit and read a book in a lovely breeze away from the world - we are coming back next year - with all our family we love it so much we want to share it

third time unlucky
we have been here twice since 2008,7 nights half board & have enjoyed the stay, this time we went 14 nights all inc, mistake,it felt to us like,we have your cash you wont be spending anymore so we wont have to try to hard to look after you,it sounds harsh but its the way we felt,we wer given room 208,this room looks over another hotels kitchen, very little sun plenty of noise, loose tiles on the floor, cracked ones in the shower, the first towel i went to use was filthy(large stain),i comlained & fair play it was changed right away, this happend again the second week tho ! one of the plasic chairs broke on the balcony it took them 2 days to replace after i had to remind them twice, it hadnt been cleaned either it was so dirty i cleaned it myself, while we are on this subject, there was a pile of dirt on the balcony in one corner that was still there 2 weeks later also the only person to clean the bath in 2 weeks was me,the rest of the bathroom was cleaned tho?most of the staff are good, pity they are not all like the old guy Angel who does a good job, some of the other staff would serve cash paying customers or anyone spanish before you,the only other small comlaint was @ the pool bar where we enjoyed eating outside as you cant do it back home, much the same thing again,if your paying for food you get table mats if your all inc you do not?also you have times to order if your all inc,if you pay cash you can order food anytime they are open, its a shame i have had to write a letter of comlaint as this is a nice hotel in a nice location but the service seems to have gone down & the room we stayed in was in need of a revamp(& good clean),no compaints about the food/drink,all good & plenty of it,we wont go back again tho we will save our cash & go to the Barcelo complex in Jandia now thats the way a hotel should be.run.
