Romania has majestic castles, medieval towns, great hiking and wildlife, and cheap skiing just like much of the 'undiscovered' former Eastern Bloc.
The traditional way of life
Horse-drawn carts jostle for space against fast cars whose drivers are talking money on mobile
phones; farm workers watch satellite TV in their medieval farmhouses. Romania is clawing itself
forward, slowly and surely sloughing off the remnants of the Ceausescu era.
Bucharest - an undiscovered gem
One of Europe's undiscovered gems, Bucharest is a city of astonishing architecture and
tree-lined boulevards. Byzantine-style chapels, 1930s modernist buildings and the constructions
remaining from Ceaucescu's regime reflect the different stories in this countrys' fascinating
past.
