it was like staying in a kinder garden
We where a party of 4 aged 65 to 73yrs.I would only recommend this Hotel if you want to stay where children out number the adults,The hotel is centred around families with children, without any consideration for other guest that are on holiday who have paid good money to be there. The day time entertainment team are only their to have a good time and the type of music they play is for a disco that suits there age group it is that that loud it is deafening,my husband wears earring aids and he had to turn them off when we sat by the pool ( we where quite a way from the speaker ) I did ask them to turn it down a little a few times and asked the Thomas Cooks rep to have a word, but it was soon turned back up, I like to hear back ground music but this was unbelievably loud with no afternoon rest bit. Also a lot of the child where just left to run rite in the restaurant picking up food with their hands then putting it back, I ask once it there was any more cake as there was only 3 or 4 pieces left which had been played with and the waiter said he could not bring any more out until that had gone !!!, there where people coming in for their evening meals dressed in the same cloths they had had on all day and children running round in their bear feet, glass and crockery was being dropped it was just an accident waiting to happen. The hot food most of the time was cold and the same soup (cream of veg) was being served over and over, the was a choice of of 2 soups one changed now and again and was just warm. We where on an all inclusive package we got the soup for lunch and dinner. When we first arrived early afternoon when asked in the bar for a bottle of water for our room and we where given 2 large bottles but when we went back later in the week, we where told we could only have one bottle per room and would have to go back after 21.00hrs as that was the rules.
On the plus side the Hotel is spotless clean and the reception, waiters.bar and cleaning staff all work very hard and are friendly also the snack bar staff are excellent. with an excellent choice. The management want to realise when the Hotel take as a wide range of age groups they should cater for that and supervise accordingly. Our Holiday was ruined by the amount of Unruly children and the day time entertainment team. The was classed as a 4* Hotel that was being run less than a 3* it was like a free for all with no supervision.
The area outside into the village is not suitable for a disabled wheel chair person as the pavements are very uneven.
Thomas Cooks should advertise this Hotel more clearly and recommend it for mainly Families with children.
So if you want a peaceful Holiday, this Hotel is not for you.

hit and miss
Nice hotel and excellent staff. The area is quiet and not child friendly especially if you have a pushchair. I would say it's more of a place for old people. It says this hotel is good for families I disagree, it's an accident waiting to happen (low balcony rails, pool area slippery and many other things). Nice place a bit pricey but some restaurants are worth it.

Vila Gael Nautica Hotel - a fantastic holiday experience. The staff from cleaners to management are brilliant, so helpful and exceptionally friendly, always greet you with a smile and a cheery greeting.
The hotel and bedrooms are sparkling clean, and the food mmmmmmm, don't expect to lose weight.
Can't wait to go back.

Clean tidy hotel, with basic entertainment & reasonable food, it was fine for a week.
First visit to Portugal, we found it much less commercial & “touristy" than Spain and would go back to area. The seafront and beach area was lovely.
The hotel was very clean, tidy & had some good facilities for its size but not much outdoor area, just the pool.
We had a street view room which was fairly quiet, looked out onto other buildings, so opt for pool view if you can.
Food was fine but did get to be repetitive after 3-4 days with lunch & dinner similar & same veg soup at every meal for 7 days.
The evening entertainment with singers, a quiz and animal demonstration was basic but watchable. Day time entertainment appeared very basic using minimal resources.
We found most of the sunbeds had seagul droppings on, which could have been cleaned easily each morning with a presure washer.
Overall hotel was ok for a basic holiday but we would only go back if it was last minute & very reasonably priced.

Lovely relaxing holiday with everything to hand
Although the hotel and everything was first class I would point out that the food in the poolside bar area was covered in wasps and flies and should have been covered up for health reasons. I would also liked to have a sauna/jacuzzi and indoor heated pool as the pool was too cold to go in.
Overall I thought the hotel was ideally situated and we had a very pleasant relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient especially the reception staff who made us most welcome which was nice after a long journey.
