Netherlands

Overview

Known as Holland, and famous for its windmills and tulips, the Netherlands also has plenty for the city breaker. Undoubtedly one of the jewels of Europe is Amsterdam, Rotterdam is vibrant and marries the old and new, while you'll be bowled over by Eindhoven an undisputed centre for design. Dutch cuisine is basic but it has influences from Indonesian to Chinese and Surinam. In the big cities you can eat good authentic international food for a bargain price. In the late 17th century the 'Golden Age' put this tiny but rich country at the forefront of European culture and these roots are far flung across the country in its many museums and galleries. A city break to the Netherlands would not be complete without visiting Amsterdam. A great city with unique character and a style all of its own built on a network of canals at the centre of which is a small and compact town centre that is very pedestrian friendly. Renowned for its world class architecture, museums, galleries, the canals and scattered parks all add to the cities ambience.
