Top notch holiday
My wife & I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Iberostar Cancun in February/March 2014
The hotel was perfectly situated at the quiet end of the hotel strip, just a 20 minute transfer from the airport.
The first thing that struck us was the grand reception & lobby areas. Clearly something Iberostar have maintained from the hotel's past life as a Hilton.
The level of service was next to impress us. There was a bit of a queue whilst we were checking in (nothing unreasonable). However by the time we reached the check in desk someone had already been to fetch us a drink, which was greatly appreciated after the long journey from the UK.
Service in general was excellent & the staff were very friendly. Particularly in the restaurants, bars & around the pool.
The entertainment wasn't bad either. I'm generally not a fan of most hotel entertainment & this certainly wasn't the kind of thing I'd make the effort to go to see back home. However it was better than I've seen at any other hotels I've stayed at. I'm not sure whether the hotel has links to the Coco Bongo's night club, but a couple of shows were put on by their professional team, which certainly upped the quality. I was also proud to win the Michael Jackson dancing competition. One fault with the entertainment was that some of it appears to be repeated weekly. In our 10 day stay at least one show was repeated.
The animations team responsible for the entertainment & pool side /beach entertainment were excellent. Very friendly & keen to get people involved, without being pushy.
Food was always of a pretty good quality, with a reasonable selection, which catered well for my vegetarian wife and my own slightly fussy eating habits. My only criticism would be that there were no vegetarian options at the a la carte restaurants.
The private beach was lovely & spacious, with cool sand & warm sea. Much better than the beach at the neighbouring hotel, which appeared to have people crammed in like cattle. On the first morning I woke early & decided to go down to the beach to watch the sun rise over the Carribean Sea. It was beautiful. Well worth doing if you can't sleep.
We had one minor issue with a broken plug in our sink. However this was fixed by the time we returned to our room after advising reception.
Lucy, the Thomas Cook rep, was very helpful & had a wide range of excursions to offer, should we wish to get out of our tranquil surroundings. We took her up on the offer of a trip to Chichen Itza & a speedboat trip out to the coral reef, where we were able to do some snorkelling. Both trips were excellent & good value for money.
In short, we had a cracking stay at this lovely hotel. The great location, friendly/helpful staff, good food & entertainment & wide range of excursions made this holiday exactly what we were looking for. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

great holiday in cancun
we had a beach front villa, it was lovely very close to beach, fantastic view, cleaning lady called clara did a lovely job of the rooms. food good, buffet had a reasonable amount of food on offer, i never tried the japanese or steak house, but heard from other holiday makers that the food was delicious. we never had any problem getting sunbeds, even though it was the easter break.. the only downfall for me was the lack of things to do in the hotel at night. we ventured into cancun town, which by the local bus is only 5 mins or so away, these buses run continuously through the night..i would definately go back. good time had by all :-)

We were extreamly happy with every aspect of our holiday,, every one made it special,, no complaints with hotel and all that goes with it . Can't speak highly enough. Only one minor complaint, the shop/pharmacy was very, very expensive! We shopped in cancan for our needs. The food was excellent and steak restaurant was first class. A wonderful holiday with fibulas memories, thank you again Thomas cook.

Great all round holiday
I went with my two teenage sons and I must say the whole experience was wonderful. All the staff in the hotel from the cleaners to the entertainments staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and the waiters and waitresses in the restaurants were lovely people. The weather was superb and the bus close by and easy and cheap to catch. My sons thoroughly enjoyed themselves and said it as the best holiday they had been on by far. The all inclusive was excellent and room service was an added bonus and very quick. I did miss all the staff as they were such a pleasure to deal with. I would recommend to anybody and cant wait to return.

Fantastic holiday already looking at going back!
We Stayed early December The staff were very friendly and value for money one of the best all inclusive s we have been to. Would definitely recommend. We paid extra for a villa the views were amazing the room was all cleaned and tidied every day. Various options of food available and if a buffet is not for you great restaurants. Cancun area is a little run down but it is what any person should expect from a developing country stay in areas advised . Unfortunately the flights and transfers were not to a great standard but this did not ruin the holiday for us what is to be expected for the price .

Holiday in Mexico - OK - I wouldn't go to Cancun
I would never book a holiday with Thomas Cook again, based on the flights alone!! The outbound flight was terrible, the crew were scruffy and rude. There was NO pillows or blankets on either flight which also included a night flight. You have to pay for everything which is overpriced and and not very nice.
The pre-booked food was really terrible and I pity any one with a wheat intolerance as it mainly consists of white bread.
Transfers despite only being a group of about 10 people took ages and the best part of an hour after a terrible flight, to only drive 15 mins up the road, i would get a taxi or pay for a private transfer to speed this process up.
The hotel was OK, it was not a five star hotel (more like a 4 star) and lacked a certain level of sophistication. The food was repetitive and dull and lacked imagination. The wine was imported and was good.
There was limited areas except the pool and the foyer bar (sports bar full of men and felt like it was in a corridor and was not a room) to relax and enjoy. Would benefit from another space not just aimed at men to play pool and hang out (especially in the evening). The foyer bar gave the feeling that you were waiting to be collected or for something to happen rather than to relax and have a few drinks.
The spa was OK - but not as nice as it could have been and it seemed overpriced for what you got. I.E. Not 5 star enough.....
Cancun was a bit of a hole and if I did it again I would go further down the coast to Playa Del Carmen.

Family holiday in Cancun
To us the hotel is very good. The size, staff, cleanliness and activities were very good. The only let down at the hotel was the food. It was always cold and the organisation of the food area was a let down and sometimes we were waiting for more food to come out of the kitchen ie bacon in the morning and chips at lunch.
The only other thing that let this holiday down was that on both my outward and return flights my television did not work which can be a bore when you are on a 10 and 9 hour flight!!
