There are 7 A La Carte restaurants to choose from Asian, Mediteranean, Steak, Mexican, Greek fish,Arabian and Italian, all are easily booked in the morning for the ne
xt evening with no maximum number of visits. All had very good service with little delay between courses. There are several pool areas with plenty of sunloungers around them and the beach is sandy with again plenty of sunloungers under built in beach umbrellas. The sea is shallow for a good distance which is suitable for young children and less competent swimmers.Snorkelling is good here as there are several reefs offshore with plenty of fish variety. The whole complex, beaches pool areas gardens are well tended and all the buildings are in good repair.

The hotel is a typical Egyptian run establishment. The staff are friendly, the food is o.k. as long as you don`t eat anything cold i.e. salad. The resort suffers fro
m poor management. There is an obvious pecking order between different ranked members of staff. Senior staff would often berate their less senior colleagues in Egyptian of course.
The second room was clean !
Piano Diviers - On site diving
The diving facililities were badley run. The air was bad (tasting of oil) and the diving was limited to nearby reefs which I class as only good.
The centre lacks proper management and training and many diving regulations were not observed. I would never dive with this company again. They were allowing novice divers to dive to 30m !!
The problem with Egyptian Hotels is that they are only interested in your money - once you have paid forget it, They don`t give a monkeys.
If you are thinking of going to Egypt try a western hotel chain - they are generally much better and the difference in price is usually about £50 per person per week.

We had a lovely time from start to finish. With currently 7 al a carte restaurants. You can go to a different one every night as many times you like on your holiday.
There is an Asian (which was our favorite) mexican also lovely, seafood, Mediteranean, Italian, Egyptian and a steak house. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and you are very well looked after. I have never been on a holiday where staff are so attentive and make sure you do not want for anything. Any bad revies on here must have just been unlucky one offs as we absolutely loved it and are booking again for next year. My parents have also been 3 times and are again going next year. For the overall package you cannot want for more.

Typical Egyptian hotel complex, with plenty of small blocks dotted around the grounds, plenty of activities for those who like to exert themselves.
We wasn't overlt
happy with the main buffet, lots of Russians who piled their plates like Desperate Dan, often touching food with their hands and then returning it - very unhygenic. Brakfasts ans lunches are far better at the 'Around the World'.
The A la Carte restraunts are worth the 0930 pilgrimage to the Queen Vic pub, our favourite was the Steak house for the overal, the Bedouin was great until you get up from the soft coushions - beware.
Not much of a beach and the reef is almost non-existant, go next door to Fort Arabesque, take only what you need as the beach boys will remove it quicker than you can blink.
Too many Russians are still feeding the fish, when will they learn that it's not natural and will only encourage larger predatory fish (sharks).
Overal a pleasant stay with some great snorkelling.

Just returned from a great 2 week holiday our 2nd visit to Egypt. The hotel was clean a tidy and majority of staff friendly and helpful. We spent most of our time at
the family pool which was fairly quiet and had no trouble finding a sunbed near the pool. The food on the whole was good with plenty of choice but the main buffet was far too busy in the evenings. We ate at the a la carte resturants most evenings but you have to be prepared to queue the morning before for a resevation. The room was clean and adequate for a family of 4 and the room service was excellent. I don't think the hotel is quite the 5* it says, I have been to smarter 4* but we were not disappointed. The beach is great with good swimming, snorkelling and sand.
We went on a hot air balloon and the trip to the island is a must but book through the rep rather than the guys at the pool. It might be a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for.

The Holiday in all was very good! The Hotel in our opinion was not 5 star, more like 3-4 star. The rooms are very basic, but very very clean, food very good with an
excellant choice, there are 6 al carte restaurants of which you can go to as many times as you wish. There are 2 buffet restaurants, the round the world buffet restaurant is the one to go to, the other is too big, and not a very nice environment to eat in, we went once! The kids club is excellant, the 2 girls that run it are very nice, and have lots of things for kids to do! Night entertainment was average, did not see much as we have a 4 year old daughter! The hotel in general is kept very well and very clean. Pool areas are good, and so is the beach. The family pool in our last week got a bit dirty, but once we complained a management team where there with in minutes, and pool attendants were cleaning! We did the day trip to Luxor - Valley of the Kings, it was a very good trip and would recommend, the day was very long - got picked up at 6am, dropped off at 9pm. Would i recommend this holiday - yes, would I go back - no, just because I have been to Eygpt twice and done both the pyramids and the Valley of the Kings!!

My initial thoughts were that the room was disappointing. We have two children aged 7 and 3 and were hoping for a bigger room. Our bed was huge and comfortable, the
kids were ' put up' beds, the rooms and bathrooms are exceptionally clean, they are cleaned every morning. There are no Tea/coffee facilities in the room so if you like a hot drink, pack a kettle. The swimming pools are huge and lovely, we stuck to the pool by the water slides. We had no problem getting sunbeds. The water slides were great fun, my son was like a hamster on a wheel most of the holiday. Food, one word, fantastic! there is something for everyone, if you like a bit of peace when you eat, stay away from the main food hall near reception, it is chaos and full of rude Russians. We ate at Around the world for breakfast, enough choice for us. The a' La Carte restaurants are amazing! The Bedouin was our favourite followed by the Italian, Mexican, Asian, Steakhouse and Mediterranean. Impeccable service, clean and lovely food! Our daughter who is 3 got so much attention from all the male members of staff, they adore little girls, it is all harmless but is a bit alarming at first, they literally would hug, kiss and walk off with her! The beach is very nice, worth going to Fort Arabesque though , the hotel to the left, the snorkelling is much better there, you only have to go waist height to see amazing fish. The shops around the hotel are very good but be prepared to HAGGLE. Don't worry about taking any Egyptian money, there is a cash machine in reception that offers a far superior rate than you will get anywhere else and it does not charge commission. we went on a couple of trips,The submarine which was fantastic and well worth the money. The shop and rock was a bit of a let down, with all the stops and pick ups it took us an hour to get to Hurghada and it really is running the gauntlet with all the Egyptian shopkeepers, tip: dont be tempted to go into the smaller shops the bigger stores are far cheaper. The Hard rock Cafe was very good and we all enjoyed it. We all had upset tummies but I don't believe it was the food or alcohol. I think it was the intense heat and then going into air conditioned rooms. The spa is lovely we had two massages, again Haggle! I think you get the theme here. Be very careful with the Henna tattoos, my daughter had an allergic reaction to hers, it is still red and sore two weeks since we left, best avoided

This has by far been the best holiday yet over the last few years of us going abroad. The hotel was so clean and comfortable, the room was fabulous and cleaned every
day. There were 8 restaurants within the complex, ranging from Italian, mexican, meditteranean to a steak house! Our favourite place to eat was a restaurant called "Around the world". The food was simply gorgeous and catered for everyone needs. Breakfast was divine - again a huge selection to cater for everyone. The swimming pools were clean as were the surrounding areas. Every night we would see the staff busy cleaning around the hotel - inside and out! We did a couple of trips - Quad biking is a must and an experience never to be forgotten, also the submarine trip - again something that simply must be done. The staff were friendly without being intrusive, always coming round and asking if you need a drink, you didn't have to do a thing. I would highly recommend this holiday / hotel to anyone who wishes to go to Egypt - we will certainly be going back next year!!! Thank you Thomas Cook

we had a fab time at this resort, on arrival we had a hassle free check in and a nice welcome drink. we had been allocated a large family room that had 2 large beds
in one room and a large bed with sitting room and balcony in the other. the room was great had no complaints. the bell boy brought our luggage after 5 phone calls to reception and over an hours wait ( not so good :( ). large complex with plenty of space. had to get up early for sunbeds around main pool. resturants were great had "al a carte" every night. main resturant was so very busy. pools were good a little dirty around the edges. beach was great. stayed for 14 nights in july and cant wait to book again for next year. weather was very very hot.

Overall this holiday was excellent. There would be full marks if it weren't for the fact that both myself and my boyfriend developed upset stomachs the day before we
left (with mine lasting for 9 days). I had been extremely careful about what I touched and ate throghout the holiday so it was unfortunate that this happened.
On the whole the staff at the hotel were lovely and very helpful. Our room was really spacious and always clean. The situation next door to the sea was perfect, with a lovely reef to snorkel on.
The buffet restaurants weren't great but the a la carte ones were. We especially enjoyed the bedoin where the food was excellent, the staff were so attentive and the camel ride was...an experience!
Would I go to this resort again? No but only because I'd choose another area to visit. Would I recommend it to a friend? YES.

Sunrise Royal Makadi Hotel & Spa is a wonderful complex with lots of facilities, suitable for all ages. On arrival a guide escorts you to your room, then bell-boys a
rrive with your luggage (for this reason I would advise small notes for tipping - they like £1 coins too). The main restaurant has a large selection of food including a salad bar, pasta station, carvery & dessert table. Busy at opening time 7pm - would advise eating later or booking a table in one of the a la carte restaurants if you require a quieter meal. Staff wonderful, very helpful. Sunbed stations all come with 3 or 4 beds, a fixed parasol and windbreak. Fresh beach towels provided every day! Beach seemed to get busy with families but there was plenty of room in the sea, a couple of small coral reefs with clown fish on-site, take googles or a mask. Taxi's very cheap (petrol only 9p per litre) agree a price first. A trip to Mahmya Island by boat is high recommended. For those using the internet cafe the @ key is above the 2.

I will be very honest with my review explaining the positives followed by a good few negatives but first I will mention one major negative that I truly believe contr
ibutes to the areas of concern.
The resort is massive, unfortunately severely over populated for the number of staff the hotel employ hence leading to a good few negatives.
Firstly the positives, as stated in my title the resort is great value for money & yes you get what you pay for so do not expect anywhere near a 5* complex, I would honestly say it only just reaches a 4* standard.
The majority of the a la carte restaurants are good with the Asian standing out for us due to the outstanding service & good food.
You are spoilt for the choice of swimming pools, the main pool, family pool (water slides) & mid size pool, all with swim up bars.
Now the negatives, mmmmmmmm hence why I've only given it an average.
Firstly what stood out from the other hotels that I’ve visited & it’s been mentioned on previous reviews was the decor/standard of the rooms, complex is soooooo worn/tired, and this hotel is in desperate need of a re-vamp, this includes all other areas.
Next the swimming pools are not clean, yes from the surface but I swim regularly & use swimming goggles.....dirt, stones, plasters, plastic cups, food.... Family, main & mid size pool all had the same problem. The mid size pool swim up bar area has ground in dirt near the underwater seats, the children’s pool next to this was a brown colour by mid day.
In the same pool area a large guy fell down a rusty manhole cover near the bar hurting his ankle, not good, the hotel manager even tried to get him to sign a disclaimer! The towel guy in the same area was re-located to the beach for shouting & screaming at a female guest regarding towels.
The service in the lobby bar area was very poor giving the impression that they wanted to do as little as possible.
Now for the Shahrzad main buffet, wife hated it, fed up with playing bumper cars, I could just about put up with it but stopped going in there to prevent the cold war starting again so no more, and it’s already been mentioned in previous reviews so I won’t go into detail.
One area that I will mention & was of concern was the hygiene of some of the staff & dirty behind the serving/cook areas. Now I'm pretty observant & don’t miss much but I saw on a few occasions staff handling raw meat then picking up cook meat (chicken) with the same gloves, on some occasions they were split with a couple fingers poking out, I
Now to conclude the hotel service had good & bad days, I personally believe as already mentioned that they just cannot cope with the amount of guests, you might be one of the lucky ones that get a good service but it won’t be the same for everyone.
It’s just a shame that these areas let it down, it was still value for money, we still had a great time, just don’t look to deep behind the scenes.

The hotel was lovely but needed updating in some places. Staff were excellent and very helpful at all times. Not impressed with the fold up bed for the 3rd person in
a twin room ! Food in the buffet restaurant was not very adventurous and there was not much variety in the Round the World restaurant but at least it was quieter. A second buffet restaurant is needed for such a big resort as it is chaos at meal times. Not many trips available other that Cairo and Luxor but having already done that the other choices were uninspiring.

We went to SRM on 17 June 2011 and after reading a few reviews were a little dubious well we had nothing to worry about it was fantastic. The rooms are cleaned every
day with fresh bedding and towels and out maid even left us some lovely towel sculptures. We had a Queen bed and it was very comfotable.
The food is excellent with plenty of choice but remember if you go for a fortnight some things will get repetitive as they are catering for so many Nationalities and trying to please everyone. As Thomas Cook guest are ultra all inclusive all of the al a carte returaunts are free to visit as many times as you like. We can recommend them all and a new |Mexican resturaunt is due to open soon.
The staff are very friendly and try their best to look after your every need, they always have a smile for you even after the very long days they work.
The lobby bar serves cocktails and we tried most of them and they are very tasty try the Jamaican !!

Everything except the main restaurant was excellent. Unfortunately because of the al la carte restaurant booking scheme we had to use the main restaurant twice which
was a disaster. There were no clean tables, no drink service, food was not replenished, food and wine was strewn across the room, food was cold and when cutting into chicken it was red raw. We walked out and complained but the restaurant manager was too busy to see us. There is a snaller restuarant which does not have the choice but was much more civalised. All the al la carte restaurantts were excellent and especially the arabic. Otherwise the service from all the staff was brilliant and the room we had was big and comfortable.

We arrived after a long flight without any audio/visual entertainment, (recently stopped by Thomas Cook Airlines !!!)
From arrival at the airport to reaching the res

We had a lovely room overlooking one of the swimming pools and a sea view in the distance, the restaurants were very good in particular Around the World, and of the a la carte restaurants we liked the Eastern & Italian.
The staff at Lobby bar 2 were very friendly and made a very good Long Island Iced Tea :), the bars outside were very good and for a small tip you got very quick service.
The pool was lovely albeit a bit cold, Mahmood at the pool bar was really good and looked after us.

Having had wonderful holidays in Sharm on four previous occasions with Thomson Holidays, my wife and I decided to try an all inclusive holiday in Makadi Bay, Hurghad
a, with Thomas Cook. We were accompanied by the widow of a friend of ours.
Shortly before we were to take our holiday we were informed that our flight from Newcastle would not fly straight to Hurghada, as was the case when we booked, but would ‘pick up’ at East Midlands Airport with a ‘drop off’ there on the return flight. Unfortunately this added a further two hours to the flight which spoilt the start of the holiday and made the return journey most unpleasant, particularly having to disembark at East Midlands. Also, something that thankfully didn’t affect us was passengers for Gatwick had to travel with us to East Midlands, to be bussed back to London; such crazy organisation.
As we are all tall, we also booked long leg room. However, my seat was also booked by a passenger boarding at East Midlands. As he wanted to be near his family and I wanted to be near my wife there was an uncomfortable discussion. With support of the cabin crew, we agreed a compromise. Our friend moved into the window seat by the emergency exit, which has a leg room restriction. The same scenario occurred on the return flight. As she paid £60 for long leg room, I feel she should have this refunded.
It is unfortunate that flight arrangements have coloured our views of this holiday and as we now feel a lack of confidence in Thomas Cook, we are unlikely to book through them again.
With regard to the accommodation, which was advertised as 5 Star, there is no comparison to the Jollie Ville 5 Star hotel in Sharm, or to other hotels we have stayed in. Although clean, our rooms were ‘tired’ looking with ‘patched up’ repairs. Not what you expect of 5 Star accomaodation.

We had been to this hotel twice already and as we had had such good times there we decided to go back for a third time. We should not have bothered, the hotel is sti
ll the same, more rooms had been added, some of them were starting to look a bit dated and bits were falling off, ie loo roll holder, shampoo/showergel/soapholder in shower, light fittings. Nothing to drastic and we did not bother complaining about it as we were able to fix it ourselves. The hotel was very full and this led to resaturant being overcrowded and it would run out of crockerey and cutlery. The staff did not seem as friendly as before, even when you tipped them! the pool was still great. The entertainment was laughable for the wrong reasons!! The rep was 'wet'!, not a patch on our previous girl. The hotel as doing electric ride ons for small children who were dangerous and I got nearly knocked over 3 times, no parent to be seen...If they are going to do this make an enclosed area for them to play in safer for all involved. the food was not as good either the choice was poor, The 'restaurants' you had to pre book for were poor as wel and did not justify the 50 minutes of cueing.

We went to Sunrise in early April 2011. The hotel is a little tired in places and would benefit greatly from a spruce up. The wait in reception whilst they check you
in had us a little worried as it was a definite drop in standards from our last Makadi Bay holiday in Makadi Palace. However, the welcome was very friendly and our room was lovely and big, very clean and light.
Our first meal in the med restaurant was quite disappointing, but every other night we ate at either the Italian or Asian, both of which are very good. The Italian does an excellent beef carpaccio. We also had teppanyaki on our last evening which was a great experience.
The bars make inconsistent drinks, you'll have a lovely drink, order the same thing and then it's not so good. The Suites bar is great with a lovely barman.
The beach is nice with comfy sun loungers, do use the red flag or you will be hassled for spa/ dive/ camel etc constantly. There is no bar service at loungers which would be a good improvement.
There is no reef at Sunrise but a fabulous reef at Fort Arabesque next door.
If you want to do a snorkelling trip, I strongly recommend idive at Fort Arabesque.
We didn't really get involved with the animation team, but they seem good fun.
Great lunches at the pergola bar
We used the gym most days, the trainer is lovely and friendly and very helpful.
We had breakfast in both the main restaurant and around the world buffet, both were good with lots of choice.
We did enjoy our holiday, there are improvements that could be made at the hotel, but the staff are great which is so important.

The resort itself was very clean and impressive on arrival. The food was ok but after a couple of days I had lost interest in the main restaurant. The place has the
potential to be a very good resort but it was the little things that let it down. A number of the waiters in the restaurant were quite abrupt and made you feel like you were putting them out if you asked for something. There were never any spoons by the coffee machines or sauces out by the bar in the day. If you asked for anything, it either took over half an hour to arrive or did not arrive at all. However, some of the waiters couldn't do enough for you, so it was a mix. The pools and grounds are lovely and the adult pool was a god send. We had a nice time but I’m glad we were only there for 1 week. Good value for money though, depending on what deal you get. The flight home was the worst part, no entertainment, I was pulling my hair out by the time we arrived in Gatwick. It's a shame Thomas Cook have made this decision.

IAfter a stressful time at home - I wanted a week's total relaxation and, in the main, that's what I got.
The room was clean and had a safe, the air conditioning wor
ked. The only downside was that the shower water pressure wasn't brilliant.
The pool area was very pleasant with plenty of loungers. The pool we used (as there were about 4) had waterfalls and a small slide for the children. It was the one nearest the beach. The childrens section and the proper 'laned' section were both lovely temperatures but the rest were very very cold.
Plenty going on, callinetics on the lawn, water aerobics, water polo. If you like to chat and meet new people then the staff who walk round all day trying to get you to buy a trip on a submarine/paragliding/massage/henna tattoo/pedicure/banana boat etc etc may not get on your nerves. However, if they do, then the towel station will give you a red flag, which in our case stopped about 80% of them.
Three a la carte restaurants which you can book on the day if you're flexible re timings (or the day before if you want a specific slot. There are 3...6.30, 7.30 and 8.30 - inside and out)
I can't majorly fault this hotel. The waiters were pleasant and attentive, the pool are snacks were plentiful.

Chef came round and asked our opinions on the food, which was a first. He welcomed any suggestions. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Entertainment at night by the Animation Team was awful and good professional entertainment 2 or 3 times during the week would have been a bonus. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk along the beach to the main part of Makidi Bay which was very pleasant but also very empty everywhere, which presumably, was due to the recent events in Eygpt.

I stayed at the Sunrise Royal Makada Hotel with three of my friends, when we arrived the booking in process was so easy we were given rooms next to each other which
was great; after dumping our cases we went to explore it was amazing the swimming pools were out of this world never seen one so big. We found all the staff excellent, polite and freindly nothing was too much for them. The rooms were nice and big and were cleaned every day the grounds were clean and very well landscaped. All the resteurants were exceptional the food was always hot and plenty of it. No fighting for the sunbeds either, maybe because there were only British in the hotel when we were there. We didnt have children but there was plenty for them to do and I noticed a lot of watersports were available also. I will certainly go back to this hotel when I get the chance.

My son & his girlfriend visited this Hotel in Jan 2011 & when they came back they said they loved it.We were looking to go on holiday in the February so decided we w
ould book a week there.Unfortunatly the riots in Egypt started about 2 weeks before we went away which took the shine off the holiday & i didn't really want to go.When we arrived at the hotel quite late at night i was very impressed but changed my mind over the coming week. The hotel was empty as only the British holiday makers were being sent to Egypt.A lot of the amenities were closed including the pools & the big Restaurant.I did not enjoy the food at all although we did pay on one of the nights for the Terinaki & it was super. We were put in a basic room even though the Hotel was empty & spent a week with only luke warm water & cold showers,we did complain & they offered to move us the night before we came home as we had no water at all by then but it was too late.I really think we should not have been sent to this Hotel because of the riots even though we saw no sign of anything & the staff were brilliant but there was no atmosphere.Maybe it would have been a different story if we had gone at any other time.

We had a brilliant time at this resort even though it was a tough time for the people of Egypt. The resort itself had everything we needed and there was no need to l
eave the resort. Due to the problems with the government unfortunately they were restricted with the oil to heat the pools and getting food deliveries from Cario. although this happened we know it wasn't the fault of the hotel and it didnt put us off. The restuarants were lovely with a selection of choice (although it did dwindle towards the end due to the problems). Unfortunately I had an unpset stomach but I believe this was down to the way they cook the food and what they cook it in as I am not use to food cook in oils etc. My daughter of 8 months ate most foods and was well all the time and my partner had no problems with the food. Although many countries stopped flights going out there we still received a very good service from the people working there. we still had evening entertainment and there was a few activities going on in the day. My partner went fishing most days of the pier and was welcomed by the locals who knew him as the fisherman! We are thinking of going back again next year as the temperature was just right for ourselves and our daughter although evenings got a little cold so a cardigan was required. Our daughter was spoilt by the Egyptians. She often got small gifts of the local shopkeepers and had so much attention from the waiters she was in her elements! The only downside is the Egyptions try ripping you off so you have to haggle with them and be brave enough to go very low in price.
we had a last minute deal with Thomas Cook and it was very good price and as we were all inclusive we definately got our money's worth. Although there is restriction of the Al a Carte restuarants to once a week as it is not high season we had no problems going as many times as we liked. We ordered as many items as we wanted and even ordered dishes for our daughter which you could never do over here! if we didnt like the food the normal restuarants were open until 10 pm so there was time to get something from there. food i did miss was a traditional Homecooked roast and proper chips as they only did fries out there!!! There was always chefs cooking food so i often asked for food to be cooked fresh especially for my daughter instead of having it out of the drums as it could have been there for a while! By the end of our holiday they closed the main restuarant and did food from the smaller one which was fine for us, although at first they let people smoke in there which really is something we dont like whilst eating! I did mention this to the reception which was dealt with and they split the smoking area from the non smoking area, only problem was we were all in the same room. fortunately there was very few who smoked in there!

The hotel and gardens are very clean and tidy, the staff are friendly and want to make your holiday special, we found the main restaurant far too busy and at the pea
k times there was a haze hanging in the air because of the cooking, the A La Carte's were better. The snorkelling is better in front of the Fort Arabesque and we did like the idea there that you could sit quite close to the sea and have a drink in the shadewhile people watching, the Sunrise has few shaded areas. We both had bad colds whist there and we would like to have been told at the Reps meeting things like where the nearest Pharmacy was (the hotels either side of the Sunrise has one) We thought it was in Hurghada. Overall a good holiday and the Xmas Gala night was excellant.

The flight was delayed and seating extremely, I mean extremely, cramped to the point where I could not move in the seat.So much for the comment in the Thomas Cook li
terature saying you should move about. Transfer to resort was delayed and no explanation was given. This and the slightly shambolic check in didn't leave us enough time to get dressed for the Gala Christmas Eve Dinner, which was a shame because the dinner was spectacular in a large marquee. Our accomodation was good and clean if a little dated. The resort was also very good and the buffet style meals were excellent with a wide variety on offer, although we did both get the tummy bug. The resort staff were great, jolly and happy to help. Regrettably the pools were not heated and with a water temperature of 17 C were hardly used. A real shame in such a sunny location when a couple of solar panels could heat the water. Luckily the sea temperature at 24 C was comfortable and there was a good beach with fixed sunshades. Evening entertainment was a little amateurish at times but was in general good fun and possibly aimed at a younger audience. We stayed in the resort except for one trip to the shops and Hard Rock Cafe. We then remembered why we avoided organised tours because most of the evening was spent in the coach doing pick ups and dropping off. The Hard Rock was very disappointing with very limited menu, not as good as the burgers served at our hotel. Overall the flight was terrible, due to lack of space, which tainted the holiday. The resort was good although spoilt by the cold water restricting use of the pools but because of this and the general quality it would not really rate any higher than a 3 1/2 to 4 *.

This is the second Christmas in a row we spent as a familty at the Royal Makadi and I must say it did not disapoint. The Al La Carte's are excellent and the service
top notch. Admittedly we were recognised by some of the staff from our previous visit, but this added to our enjoyment of the holiday as the staff seemed to go that further mile to treat us as special guests. We were also really happy to discover an excellent reef for snorkelling at the Fort Arabesque hotel next door. We just popped our towels on the sunbeds in the Royal Makadie, snorkelled in the reef at the Arabesque and then returned to our sunbeds at the Royal - no problem. Also this is the only hotel I have ever been to where I have not had to get up at some ridiculous hour to nab a sunbed - they are in abundance here at any time of day which is a very nice change. We are not really ones for evening entertainment however we did go to a couple of shows this time - which were all entertaining - expecially the chinese circus. We will be returning at christmas again this year to this faculous hotel.

our holiday was the best we have ever had in egypt and we have been there 4 times. the hotel was great, food was great, staff were great. The only problem we had was
the hotel had a problem with the hot water and we were in a room that had no hot water at all we complained to our rep (hayley) and she did nothing about it. after two days of getting cold showers we went straight to management and they gave us another room. We understood they were having problems but felt the rep should have dealt with it. All that said the rep wasnt very good at anything she seemed to have her head somewhere else half the time. We did a 2 day in Luxor and felt this was very good value for money and it was packed with plenty to see and do. Last time we went we only went for one day it was not enough time to see it all. All in all we had a fantastic time and would go to this hotel again in fact we were spoilt we would not go anywhere else at Christmas. best ever.

The holiday at the sunrise makadi bay was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful, after the first day they even had your drink at the table before you
sat down. The hotel was spotlessly clean with lots to do and the beach was lovely.
My only complaint was the Thomas cook flight with no films or entertainment which we were only told about a few weeks before flying, due to this I will not fly with Thomas cook again. This is a shame as we have always gone on holiday with them and found them very good.
I would return to the sunrise hotel as the staff are great and the christmas buffet was exceptional they even had a stable with Mary and Joseph and a camel and Donkey.

We stayed in the Stella Makadi for the last week in Nov and had a great stay it was exactly what we wanted, great weather great location and lovely friendly people.T
hey was plenty of choice of food and drink so even the pickiest of eaters shouldn't go hungry.
The only downside of the holiday was the tour to Cairo we booked, if you have a problem don't believe their ' your safer with us if you have a problem'...... this is just a sales pitch they are not at all interested if things should go wrong. So your better organising it yourself and will probaly save yourself alot of money.
We've contacted them twice since getting back and the best response we've had was a computer generated email saying they are looking into our complaints... 6 weeks by the way now???
Takes away the pleasant experience some what but non the less good value for money, but i for one wouldn't book a trip with them again.
Hope this is helpful....... borolad

We had a fantastic time at the Sunrise Royal Makadi, the staff where so attentive & friendly, everywhere is kept really clean, the five pools are fantastic huge & cl
ean! We where only there for one week so didn't do any of the trips but the welcome meeting was informative without being too pushy, it was worth going to. We where lucky enough to get a room upgrade which we where really impressed with. We went as aparty of eight six adults & two children aged thirteen & nine, they had a fantastic time! The food was fine the main restaurant was ok nothing fantastic but you could always find something to have, but we would highly recommend the a la cart restaurants, the food there was amazing as good as any top restaurant. We would definately like to go again & would recommend it to anyone.

We have been to this Hotel three times, each time it has been excellent, we are changing next year to try another resort, but I know I have a full back.
I feel the
Thomas Cook flights are very good except for seating room, which feel more cramped than other airlines, which was stated by all on the flight. The flight food is very bland and worse than previous times, rolls are stale.
We now buy a sandwich meal in Boots which includes a sandwich, crisps or cake or fruit and drink, I feel its a much better prospect, than what we/have receive on the aircraft.
The Hotel excellent, but the rooms are getting a little dated, the resort needs a spruce up, but when its but the hotel staff are very helpful, aways willing to assist, food excellent variety and display,

I went on this holiday with my boyfriend, we are both in our early 30's. We are not fussy individuals but we like the nicer things in life. The Royal Sunrise Makadi
lived up to our expectations and we had a fantastic time there.
The resort itself is right on the beach, so if you prefer beach you have the beach right on site or if you prefer the pool it's all there to frolic in.
There are a number of small shops on site but we didn't venture into them too much because we aren't really the haggling types and we didn't really need anything.
In terms of food, we chose to go to the round the world restaurant because it was much quieter and still had a good range of foods available, all the food was good and plentiful. The main restaurant is bigger but so many more people used it so it wasn't a relaxing experience. If you don't have kids maybe try to go about 19:45 onwards as there are less people about at that time. There are three restaurants that you have to book, an Italian, Mediterranean and Asian. We went to the Italian and Asian and found both to be very good and I would suggest you book to go to them.
The rooms are basic but clean, the shower was great, in fact the whole resort is very clean.
Yassar who works in the bar by the pool is fantastic and tip him well to start with and you'll want for nothing, he never let us run out of drinks and if there were no available tables in his section he would find one and make us a table.
We went on a couple of trips, one to do snorkling (Blue Sea/Sky trips down on the beach front on the resort) this was fab and a great day out and the other was to go on a submarine (just as you walk out main reception on your left, you'll see a rep sat there), we booked directly with the company for both trips as it was cheaper.
We took dollars with us but also Egyptian pounds and everything was cheaper if you paid in Egyptian, in fact we hardly used any dollars.

Before making this booking we looked at various reviews of the resort and as one would expect there were a few bad reviews however our visit in October 2010 was one
of the very best holidays we have had. The accomodation exceeded our expectations being spacious, clean and comfortable with a cracking view overlooking the family pool. All staff were extremely helpful and courteous. There were ample poolside sun beds and a clean and pleasant beach area attached to the complex. The buffet restaurants has a large and varied menu and the a la carte restaurants were all excellent quality and pleasant environments to eat in. The asian and mediterranean restaurants being our favourites. The hotel kids club was an excellent facility. The only negative we can touch on is the hectic rush around the buffet restaurant when they first open (7pm) - to avoid this we can only suggest going for evening meal at around 8pm when the main restaurant is markedly quieter. Overall though if you want a quieter resort but with plenty of activities, easy access to a pleasant beach and courteous staff and great service then try Sunrise Makadi Bay.

This was our second time there, we went last year as well. Accomadation was good and clean, food was acceptable although very repetative. Entertainment was awful and
almost the same as the previous year (but it's not to everyone's taste). Staff are friendly and more then helpful. and as we had a night flight home we were able to extend our check out time at reception for free. The only thing that I can complain about is that myself and my partner managed to sit together on the way out but again for the second year we were opposite ends of the plane on the way home, although we did not pay to reserve our seats, there were couples that had opted to sit with friends and were also not sitting together!

Overall very good, not sure why people would leave negative feedback for this hotel.
Iw ould say this hotel is 4 star rather than 5, I have staying in alot of 5 sta
r hotels and this is not 5 star.
Saying that I would say it is a very good 4 star, the hotel itself is as you see in the pictures, clean spacious, and very welcoming.
The only small let down is the food in the main buffet restaurant. Dont get me wrong its not bad or average it is good food but like i've said, not 5 star. On the other hand the 3 alternate restaurants are fantastic.
The staff are friendly and cant do too much for you. Fresh beach towels everyday and there are plenty of loungers at the beach or by the pool all through the day.
Overall a fantiastic hotel. Recommended.
