Jordan
Overview
Jordan: From the dramatic desert scenery of Wadi Rum and the spectacular facades of ancient Petra to the romantic tales of lost cities, Lawrence of Arabia and the bedouin - Jordan rewards visitors with the opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful and fascinating countries of the Levant region. Add to this the warmth and legendary hospitality of its people and memories of your visit are sure to stay with you for years to come!
Petra: The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra - the Red Rose City is in a category of its own and is today Jordan's stellar attraction. A 2000 year old city carved into rose-coloured stone and hidden from view by the mountains. Petra is entered through the siq - an immense crevice in the rock that winds for over a kilometre between overhanging cliffs and stuns visitors with it's beauty and grandeur. From the imposing Treasury to the lofty Dayr, the mystery of Petra remains as elusive and fascinating as ever.
The Dead Sea: At 410 metres below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth and due to it's extremely high concentration of mineral salts, it is unable to support any life in it's waters. However, these natural elements reputedly give the waters healing powers and have attracted visitors since ancient times to float effortlessly in the soothing super-salty water under the Jordanian sun.
Jerash: Located on one of the ancient world's key trading routed and one of the best-preserved cities of the Roman Empire, the ruins of Jerash offer visitors a sense of the Roman world at it's height. Today you are free to wander the ruins of colonnaded streets, arches, temples and baths and a visit here is highly recommended.
Wadi Rum: The largest and most magnificent of Jordan's desert landscapes, Wadi Rum was made famous by David Lean's film Lawrence of Arabia. The stunningly beautiful area is the perfect place to explore in 4WD vehicles and share the experience of the desert with that most romanticised group of Arabs - the Bedouin.
Aqaba: Aqaba is Jordan's resort on the Red Sea and is famous for its sandy beaches and coral reefs. It's a resort fringed with palm trees, lapped by crystal clear waters, cooled by a steady northerly breeze and ringed by mountains that change colour throughout the day.
