Our children loved this place!!
Ok, so I've read a few of the comments on here and I was not going to right one but I feel that in a few places this has been put down. When we first arrived at the hotel, it's always a wonder what your going to expect. This was my first family holiday and we all loved it, I know the airport is across the road (the runway) but it's a small island and only a few landed per day, however you hardly heard them at all as the music was on. Pools are very clean and the water park is brilliant for all ages, especially between the ages of 3 and 5 as one of the pools is 0.4 in height and the slides are amazing for them. Yes the wave pool is on at certain times, however there is a timetable for them and my kids just loved being in the pool when it weren't on as it's like a beach without the sand. There is a timetable for all slides, and all are on a few times a day, ( but there were at least two on all the time, and the middle pool for little ones is always looked after by staff. (Which is always open). There's always water activities each morning in the activity pool and the staff do a good job to get you involved ( there's no pressure tho). Volleyball is a main one and water aerobics for all is brilliant! Free scuba lessons are in one pool which my ones did and he also taught my son to do some diving tricks. The day time staff are amazing and are always making you laugh. And the kids club is free!! Which they do brilliant activities. The entertainment was good, especially for little ones. But again they do a good job at what they do. Food was good, plenty to choose from, it's in Greece so it's not all English ( I think you would expect that). They also do a children's section. My children are 10,9, and 7 and we had a brill time. All staff are hands on and always there to help you. Only one thing I have an issue with is we booked a turtle day....we see one turtle!! Don't do it this time of year....it's was a good trip out in the sea tho. Also not much to see in the stripe outside the hotel, and if you see a blonde hair girl doing henna tattoos....don't do it, rip off and they never lasted. :) oh and I had a massage in the hotel spa, it was very good! :)

Poor family holiday in Zante, Greece
Poor 2 ask family holiday at caretta beach, Zante. Not value for money at all. I have waited a whole year for this very expensive holiday.
Staff were really nice, polite and worked really hard. Life guards were the only ones grumpy. Room was adequate, spacious and very clean. Snack bar food was really good for kids but the restaurant food was very poor in quality, taste and choice, it was not 4star quality food. Evening entertainment was really, really poor, ideal for girls under 10 but not for boys or adults, really boring and the acts they brought in from outside was disappointing apart from two male singers on one night.
Absolutely furious with the watermark, how can you have a WAVE POOL and only have machine switched on for 10 minutes, 4 times a day and when that was switched on it meant there was only 2 slides out of 7 open. When the wave machine was off, they never had all 7 slides open at once, it was only 2 to 4 at any one time.
You do not expect to pay £3,600 for two weeks to hv limited things open in a water park in peak season, poor food and rubbish evening entertain. If it was value, I wld not hv minded as that is wot I chosen but didn't get what we paid for.

butlins with sun
25th May to 1st June 2014 , Family of 4 with 2 children aged 10 and 12. Rooms on the small side felt life a extra bed was just put in the middle of the room there was only 3 chairs 3 of all crockery, it had been recently done out but was not to highest of standard, had no shower curtain no waste bins, Jacuzzi bath but didn't work!
on entering dinning hall was always a lovely greeting then as the sound proof doors would open it felt like feeding time at the zoo, tried going at different times but was always so busy, noisy and people would just walk into you while you where trying to juggle your food and kids were running around out of control ( not a good thing when yours are well behaved), the food was nice but very repetitive. the chef was always happy to help. ended up spending most meal times in local restaurants for a quiet life. The drinks were out of disposable plastic cups which held more ice than drinks, most of the drinks were taste less and watered down.
The water park was good, but the life guards were very ignorant and the slides were only open on rotation. the pools were nice enough around complex if your up the crack of dawn to get a sun bed, never seen the whirlpools working the whole time we was there.
Evening entertainment was not up to much a little disappointing.ended up going out to look for Greek nights to get into the fact we were in Greece not Butlins!!!!!!! ps don't waste money on buying wifi half the time didn't work.
loved Zante as a place been before will not return to Caretta beach !

Dont be fooled by 4* rating!!
Just got back from a 7 night stay at this hotel. Firstly, beware - the hotel is not 30 minutes away as the brochure says - the run way is approx. 500m away across an open field which is fine if you like plane spotting!!!!! Planes are not allowed to fly at night because of the turtles so you do get some peace. If, and its a big if, we were going back to this hotel I would arrange a return taxi for the transfers as this would be far cheaper and more personal based on our experiences of the taxi company whilst we were out there (approx. 30euros).
Once we had landed, our only contact with the Tour rep was being told at arrivals which coach we needed to get on and how to find it. The coach driver drove us to the hotel (about 6 mins away), unloaded our luggage and pointed to the reception before driving off. The same was said when we were picked up a week later. Back at the airport we were greeted in departure hall by another Rep who told us which check ins we could use and then turned his attention to the next group who were asking the very same question.
The rooms are basic to say the least and cramped (we were a family of 4 with 2 children). Storage was minimal which meant we lived out of suitcases as there was very little space for clothes. The room needed a total make over as the furniture was large, dark and very old fashioned.
Cleanliness is also dubious. When we arrived we thought the room was clean - until we saw the kids dirty feet a short while later! On one occasion, the clean bedding was left in a pretty pile on the bed - we had to make them up when we got in - not what you would expect from a 4* hotel I'm afraid.
There was a bird nest above the door in our block which resulted in considerable bird mess on the floor each and every day. On one occasion, another guest placed a towel over it as it really was quite off putting.
If we had not have been All Inclusive there is no way that we would have used the "kitchen" facilities within the room - that's the microwave and sink!! - as they left a lot to be desired.
We didn't have enough hot water for us all to shower so had to take it in turns for the cold one!
The food was "ok" but very repetitive. The restaurant (which is more like Butlins than a 4* hotel) is chaotic! There is no organisation or table bookings so you have people trying to find tables whilst people are then walking to and from the food. As its a family hotel, you also have lots of young children walking around with their plates causing quite a few accidents.... Whilst the restaurant struggles to accommodate its residents, on one occasion a further large number of people were bussed in (with Thomas Cook reps) which meant even more people fighting for tables and food!! On this night, the staff could not meet the demand for food or tables. I take my hats off to the staff in this area. They worked hard constantly to the point one waiter had a nose bleed and instead of taking time out, he dealt with the situation at his post and then spend the next hour walking around with his nose in the air. There are major changes needed in this area if this hotel is ever to be a true 4* hotel.
The snacks are great for the kids but they stop at 6.30pm. The only ones available were at the Waterpark bar/fun fair which were then chargeable.
Entertainment - I really don't know what to say. There is a stage outside the restaurant which is used and is fine if the weather is good but there is no contingency for the cold or wet nights. The most entertaining activity is the bingo which says it all really.
Whilst there is a wide range of pools the sun loungers are very sparse which resulted in a large number of people sitting on the floor on their towels.
In summary, I would say this hotel is more like a 2* or 3* and in all honest we are disappointed in the hotel as we have stayed in a large number of holidays that have been far superior to this one (including 2* & 3* hotels).

Zante was beautiful, the locals were very friendly, and the local greek owned restaurants gorgeous, the hotel however felt like a never ending episode of "benidorm" why fly to another country to immerse yourself in thomas cooks own version of culture? first and last thomas cook all inclusive, if I never see another brightly lit arcade game again, or giant vat of nutella for breakfast again, it will be too soon. zante local tourism is suffering because of these large, impersonal and soulless hotels. very depressing

Great Resort, would recommend but beware....
Excellent resort. - Very clean, brilliant water slides, many pools, plenty places to sunbathe, lovely food incl snacks, great helpful staff, brilliant entertainment team.
However, even though it's All inclusive there are many things to tempt you to spend money. If you have young children beware they may be constantly asking for money to play on machines, go on rides or buy candy floss, pop corn etc....
We would definately recommend this resort, had a great 2 weeks holiday 21st July 2013.

Brilliant holiday at Caretta Beach Hotel!
Just returned from Caretta Beach and had a fantastic holiday. The 1-bed apartment was fine for us with 2 children, and was kept very clean. The hotel reception staff are excellent and will do anything they can to help. The restaurant offers a great variety of food with something to suit everyone, and there were soft drinks, tea, coffee, beer and cocktails freely available all of the day that we were awake! The on site waterpark is fantastic, as are the number and variety of swimming pools (special mention here to Taz, the cocktail barman at the pool bar - what a lovely man!). The children loved the Kids' Clubs too, and it was great for us to have child-free time so much. The hotel is an easy walk from the main street in Kalamaki (some lovely restaurants and cocktail bars) and the beach. We also did the Shipwreck tour and turtle boat trip. It's hard to think of anything that could improve this resort, they seem to have thought of everything!
