Brilliant family holiday in Petra
We have just returned from another brilliant holiday at Niki's Michaels, which is in a great location, a lovely unspoiled working village with cobbled streets, plenty of little shops, restaurants and bars and an amazing church perched atop a massive rock - a real step back in time, a taste of "real Greece" - the small block of apartments are owned by a lovely family, Niki and her husband Costas and Michael their son and his wife Maria. It is a very attractive property, the pool, gardens and terrace are all well cared for, they all go out of their way to make their guests feel very welcome. My daughter is a vegan, Niki was happy to create numerous vegan dishes (most of the tomatoes etc grown in dad, Costa's garden) for her, even on BBQ night when they are extremely busy, nothing was too much trouble - normally feeding her is very difficult especially in Greece where normally if it doesn't have meat or fish in it it is smothered in cheese! Michael and Maria both speak excellent English and are happy to help with any problem that might arise, we found them to be very caring and thoughtful, particularly towards my 20 month old grandaughter. We absolutely loved being there and will definitely be booking our third holiday there soon.

We really enjoyed our stay at Niki's Michael Studios in the beautiful island of Lesvos. Petra is a wonderful base to explore Northern Lesvos with local buses to Molyvos, Eftalou and Anaxos. Petra has some great restaurants and Niki prepares the most amazing bbq on a Thursday evening with wonderful traditional Greek food - she is the most wonderful cook.

welcome return to the niki-michael
we make a point of not returning to the same accommodation as the risk of a let down is high. however we had such a great time last year we decided to break our rule. this year proved to be even better than the last. on arrival we and the first timers were given a warm welcome and a much needed drink by micheal, we were also recognised and hugged by his mother niki. micheal then ran through the way that the apartments operated, he explained that thomas cook require the apartments to be lightly cleaned on tuesday ( bins emptied, floor mopped, loo rolls topped up etc) and deep cleaned on saturdays. he also explained that the hot water was fed by a boiler not solar powered and that it was switched on everyday between 8-10am and 6.30-8.30pm, and frankly if you are on holiday why would you need it at other times. it certainly beats the hit and miss affair of solar heating. i must admit that after a couple of heavy nights in the pool bar i did have a much needed ( and deserved) cool shower.
our room met our needs perfectly, kettle, shower, wardrobe and bed! it had the added bonus of cooking equipment , plates , bowls, cutlery plus cups and glasses, most of which remained unused. i dont come to Greece to cook!
nikis' food was superb, in many cases better than the local tavernas, the two bbq nights we attended provided the chance to sample many local dishes freshly prepared by niki and her husband Costas. their lunchtime meze gives you three dishes plus salad and bread with a drink each and was fantastic value at 14e for two people. its pot luck but they will tailor it to a degree to suit your tastes.
newcomers to the apartments were made to feel especially welcome and very quickly found out how the placed ticked, i personally know of 8 from last week that intend to return, which may be a problem as availability is tricky as it is!
we also witnessed micheals commitment to the care of his guests, firstly when a lady travelling alone mislayed her passport and missed her flight and was forced to arrange other flights leaving her with out transfers to the accommodation, on hearing about it micheal arranged for her to be picked up at no cost to her, oh and she was staying at another hotel. he also assisted me with a problem i had with my car hire company. its not just about the buck.
it is a perfect example of the greece that makes us want to return, a true example of philoxenia.
on a lighter note the pool was fantastic and the bar although low key stays open while there are people and conversation, as my liver will testify!
Petra itself is a lovely chilled resort with a few bars and a great choice of tavernas offering a great selection of authentic greek dishes. it has a nice clean beach and the village is as friendly as you will find anywhere in greece.
the niki-micheal attracts people from varying walks of life, but a likeness of mind of what they want from a holiday and the accommodation, and each year a few more decide to return which is fine, some dont and thats fine too. we will return again.

We wanted somewhere quiet and thought we'd found it. The place is ideally located well away from the main agora but within a short walk from the beach.
The problem with this accommodation is the bar. It stays open until the last guest leaves which can be 3am. On "party" nights its extremely noisy. So not a place to stay if you value your sleep as you'll need another holiday to recover. Which is what happened to us!

Excellent all round!
My partner and I have just returned from 2 weeks at Niki Michael's in Petra, Lesvos. We really lucked out booking here! We were looking for a relaxed place with friendly staff, with clean, well maintained rooms/grounds, a nice pool and good food and we got all of that and more! Michael and Maria who run the place are very friendly and happy to accommodate you wherever they can. Niki (Michael's Mum) is an AMAZING cook- my jeans say almost too good! There was always space around the well kept pool and it's in an absolutely beautiful setting, surrounded by mountains, it makes you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere despite being a short walk to the gorgeous village of Petra. The rooms are decorated to a very good standard and are cleaned regularly. They have great basic facilities for cooking and the beds are really comfortable. Good air con was also a big bonus! We really recommend the bbq on a Thursday night! We had a lot of fun and again the food was outstanding! We can't thank them enough for making our holiday really special and one to remember!!
