A last minute booking, this holiday exceeded our expectations. The apartments were well laid out, and the studio clean, spacious and fairly comfortable although not
hugely set up for self catering. Nice town within easy walking distance with a choice of restaurants. Quiet and relaxing. Would recommend a car if staying longer than a week. Overall would recommend this holiday.
The one downside of the trip was the checkin at Glasgow airport. 10 checkins open, but only three available for 'normal' passengers. the other seven were to encourage passengers to pay an extra fee for speedy boarding. In addition there were another seven members of staff at the start of the checkin area trying to 'sell this service'. A total of 14 staff doing virtually nothing while most passengers waited ages. No time for shopping or eating, so lost revenue for the airport facilities. Very poor service.

We stayed in Marietta Village,Skala,Kefalonia for two weeks in September, our second visit .Obviously we liked it the first time hence our return it was as perfect as
before. It is a very attractive place and spotlessly clean. The apartments are very comfortable with everything you need for self catering. The staff are pleasant and cheerful and very approachable if you need anything. We had beautiful weather all of the time which helps but we found the other holidaymakers were as relaxed and happy as we were.It is well placed for both the main road and the beach both within five to ten minute walk.Skala is a lovely with lots of great tavernas and restaurants nice little bars supermarkets and bakeries. We love it so much we have already booked for next year.

Kefalonia is beautiful, I would love to visit the island again, a week it is not enough time to relax and also visit all the sights. I thought Skala was a lovely res
ort for families, I found the local people were warm, welcomed children and tried their best to make your holiday special. A few Greek words from tourists are appreciated. The beach is long and clean, there are plenty of sunbeds to choose from, it is shingle though, so a pair of waterproof sandals is a good idea. We didn't have a bad meal in Skala and the choice for kids is great as most of the food is available is simple and healthy, the restaurants we ate in were happy to serve childs size (and price) meals from the menu.Greek cuisine is perfect for vegetarians too. I loved getting a chicken gyros at lunchtime to eat on the beach, I had the best seafood pasta at the Italian restaurant and the Greek Meze in the Souvlakerie is tasty and huge! Our accomodation was self catering in an apartment, we had a lovely view, being on the second floor and ate breakfast on the balcony every morning. The accomodation was basic but clean, the cleaners come in everyday and change your towels and bedding once a week, extra pillows were provided by the lovely maid when I had substituted blankets! I wish air conditioning was included in the price of the holiday, 7 euros a night feels like alot when you want to spend your money on other things! The resort was beautifully maintained, flowers everywhere and the swimming pool was clean. I loved the colours of the buildings and the landscape is amazing. A pet hate is when people leave towels on sun-loungers then disappear for the day, so I would recommend a few more parasols to Marietta Resort or a collection point for left towels. My favourite part of the holiday was walking upto Old Skala for the views, we set off early morning before it got too hot, there is a taverna that opens at 10am (ish) up there and you could get a taxi up on a night. Kefalonia is not for party animals, it is a lovely relaxing place that people tend return to- I would definitely recommend it. I also felt that Thomas Cook provided a great service at a reasonable price, our rep was lovely and we had a great time on the BBQ beach trip booked at the welcome meeting.

good value budget apartments with excellent pool, bar and gardens. Its was about 10mins walk to the town and 15mins to a sand beach with lots of water sports availab
le. The only down side was the air conditioning was very expensive at 7 euros per night (98 euros for 2 weeks), but a must.

We travelled to Marietta in Skala for the last week in June and were not disappointed. Ok the room was not the best but there was nothing wrong with it apart from th
e a possibly uncomfortable bed however it was typically Greek. The pool area was really good and the outside space was maintained to a very high standard. The bar snacks were very basic and if this could be improved and prices reduced to match the town then I think they would be on to a winner as they tried very hard. As people love to explore we always found the pool peaceful and the few children there were very well behaved and if you want a laugh read the Health and safety signage for the pool! The walk to the rooms is slightly hilly and there are several steps to the rear of the development. The resort is 10 minutes walk from the village of Skala and also from the beach. We enjoyed both and ate most frequently at the Scandinavia Restaurant. It is exceptionally good with a varied menu and not too expensive. We had three courses with Wine and it varied between 38 and 50 Euro.
There were frequent power cuts and strikes in June however it was handled well in resort with back up generators and the reps actually did a super job marshalling people in the airport. I loved the drive from the airport to resort as it was a little hairy! We like to do our own thing and loved the peace and quiet of Skala. The beach was great, sunbeds and brolly for between 5 and 6 Euro per day and Kefalonia Adventures give some great sailing lessons at very reasonable prices.

Holiday was excellent i have been many times before but the only complaint i can make is with Thomas cook. On the way home the flight was delayed obviously not the a
irlines fault but when we came to checking in i was booked into the back of the air plane and my pregnant fiancée was seated near the front which was a disgrace as she was pregnant and also afraid of flying and the woman on the check in desk told us we would have to put up with it as that's all that was left when in fact there was a spare seat in front of my partner and another seat clear two rows back. Pathetic Thomas cook sort it out and your staff .

It was a lovely island and enjoyed our time on the island of Kafilonia. However, what was disappointing was the smell coming from our room from the toilet area, whic
h meant we had to leave the french doors open all the time. The breakfast which we could have had cheaper in the village, but as ours was included, we ate on site, with orange squash being watered down further during the week!!!! The bar was only open at certain times and nobody used it as it was more of a shop, poorly stocked. There was no kettle in the apartment, and arriving during the rest period, we could have done with a drink, but the bar was closed. (A Kettle and cups were provided via the Rep later) The hosting could have been better.
THe village, had lovely amount of places to at, although number were closed as this was at the end of the season, and some had 20% off too. The food on the whole was very good, and in general the folk at the resturants were very friendly. The sea was only a ten minutes walk, on some pathways and in some places
poorly lit, but that added to the adventure of the place. WE took a trip which was very interesting and gave us an over view of the history of the island and what it looks like. If it had not been the end of season, I would imagine that it would be very busy.
Would I go again yes, but would carefully look at where I would bestaying. We also had a 11hour delay, and in favour of the hotel, we were allowed to stay there at the request of Thomas Cook's rep.

Have been to Skala before so pretty familiar with the location. The Marietta is situated just outside of the town, but no more than a ten minute walk to the centre/b
each. There is now a pavement and street lighting leading from the hotel to/from the centre
we stayed in self catering apartments which were basic, with electric hobs and kettles. In other resorts in the past you can expect a toaster on top of this which would have been nice.
Air con is extra 7 euros per night which was required during the week we stayed as it was 37c.
Bar area and swimming pool is excellent, was the perfect place to watch the world cup. A large beer (almost a pint) is 2.5 euros.
Not sure I would stay here again as I felt the self catering rooms were a bit too basic and the toilet shower area had a bit of a whiff permanentely. To be honest we didnt spend much time in the rooms as spent every day out on the beach/day trips and ate out in Skala during the evenings.
Overall, I would say you get what you pay for, so dont expect too much!!!

The marietta hotel does not really want children, there are no plastics allowed in the pool and if the manager sees any he is very abrupt about taking them out of th
e pool, several families went to other pools where they were made a lot more welcome. We were a party of 7 adults 1 14yr old and 3 toddlers, the family with 2 toddlers were up an awful lot of steps and found the balcony dangerous, I feel more thought should have been given to the room allocation. There are 2 tortoises at the marietta but after walking on the grass to look at them the next day a sign was put up do not walk on the grass.
The staff at the hotel are great it is the owners who are at fault and the music, it was dance music played really loud all day. However we had a good time the weathger was great but I would not go back to the Marietta as I feel the owner does not deserve the custom and T C perhaps should not advertise this as a family hotel????

My husband and i returned from kefalonia a week ago,we stayed at the Marietta village they called it but the brochure says hotel and apts.We never been to this islan
d before but it is the best out of all such a green and pretty island and the views are breath taking, we hired a car from in town it was 120 euros for three days we only wanted it for 2 days but 3rd was free,on the first day we did one side of the island and other side on the 2nd day and i would recommend this as it was well worth it.We stayed in Skala and we think we picked the best resort as it was just over the hour transfer we had chance to look at the resorts as we came through, lots of shops, tavernas, eating places, but not over ran with rif raff if you just want a lazy holiday not doing to much thats the place to go.The apartments well we went BB breakfast was enough for us you had to pick one of eggs, cereal, ham and cheese, honey and yougut, coffee or tea and always 2 slices toast jam marmalade, because we were BB we did not have kettle, the only thing we had was a fridge which was great for drinks that made up for the kettle but took my own ,so not a problem, the room were very basic but very very clean. There was no telly didnt bother us but i know it does some people. it was very warm and the only way to keep cool was the air con which you payed up front which was 42 euros week but we think it was worth every penny,We had one pillow which was to hard for me so we asked for another and it was got straight way we thought it was excellent service.the pool is lovley and big compared to the size of the complex.it is family ran and all very friendly,it is about 5mins walk into town and have some nice walks,We did drink in Sallys bar most night for a cocktail brfore we ate. in all our holiday was fab we will return to Skala and would go back to the Maritta.

Skala is a beautiful place and i think we went at the perfect time. it wasnt too busy but busy enough so we could meet new people. Everyone in Skala was so friendly,
all the locals and even all the other holiday makers. A bit disappointed in the self catering side of things as we only had two hobbs so we were limited but happy with pasta for the few nights that we did eat in. The guy behind the bar is very friendly and chatty. All the locals really appreciate if you try to learn a bit of the basic language such as hello, thank you.
I think house keeping went into the apartment every day of the week bar 1 and the cleanliness of the whole site was perfect. It has a decent sized swimming pool. The Location is brilliant as it is a five minute walk into the centre of Skala, just far enough to walk and miss any noise late at night from people leaving the restaurants/bars.
If you hire a car there are some fantastic sights to see and we done plenty of walking. We walked to old Skala and to Kateleos, beautiful scenery. If you go into Sami try and find the other caves/ lakes, they're not on all the maps the tour guides give you but on the maps on the pavements in Sami. One of the locals saw us looking for them and helped us into the lakes as there were geese at the gates, he couldnt talk a lot of English but tried and was very kind. Bit of an adventure, not as impressive as the mesalini cave but still pretty.
In Skala there are plenty of different resturants you can eat in every night and some really nice cocktail bars.
Overall we had a brilliant time, something to do every day and we never got bored.
A beautiful island.

We have just had two wonderful weeks in Skala, this is our third year of staying at the Maritta, and this year we took our daughter and her boyfriend for their first
visit to the island.
They have enjoyed it so much that they want to go back.( and our daughter celebrated her 21st while we were there)
The accomodation was very basic but comfortable and clean,. we were on B & B and breakfast is basic.
It is a short walk to the main street where there are plenty of bars and restruants, and our favorite was Siroco where we made very welcome by Andreas, the food and service was of excellent quality and the prices very good too.
This is the holiday to go to if you really need to chill out, plenty of, sun, the beach was lovely but slighty stoney, and loads of places to pick from to eat and drink. good bar to try if you want to watch a bit of sport, or listen to music is Nero's.
Our Rep Leanne was lovely and so helpful

Went on the tour of the island and enjoyed understanding the history of the island. Overall enjoyed the holiday and look forward to returning again and will recommend to others.
