Excellent holiday location and suitable for every age group.
Our second visit and still a fabulous destination.
The overall experience was good to very good.
The rooms are getting a little tired now and the proof of this is in the leaking shower compartments which can flood the whole room. The black out curtains are also evidence of age with few to many holes appearing in them.
That said, the other component parts of the room are in good order and, despite having a strange arrangement of two half sheets on the double bed, overall comfortable.
The lighting is of the energy saving, and light saving, kind and are generally a little too dim to see to put makeup on and so a hand held mirror by the patio door sufficed.
The food was very good and varied although any meat, other than Chicken and Fish, tended to be very tough and quite fatty. The BBQ area did it's best to produce tasty offerings but if there was any meat not yet taken it would be left on the heat to blacken and burn. The Chicken was delicious but occasionally prepared by the 'Machete' method. Rather than neatly quartered or eighthed it was hacked to pieces and time was then spent removing shards of bone from every mouthful.
The most noticeable highlight, apart from the weather, was the Staff. Extremely helpful, courteous, attentive and happy. From the maids to the Manageress, everyone proved a tribute to their Company. Rama on reception to Ya Ya and Alex at the bar. Wonderful.
A little too expensive at £2000 for the week and that's before excursions and spending money but overall a great place to go to escape the foul UK weather in January.
The low point of the holiday was the flight back to the UK. A 757 with the maximum number of seats crammed into it. I'm a little over 6ft and therefore fairly average in height but the seats had so little space between them that my knees were jammed into the seat in front of me. To demonstrate the space between seat front and seat back, the Safety Card only just fitted between the two and that must be about 8 inches. A 7 hour flight with my Wife on one side and a large man on the other and NO in flight entertainment. It was a hugely uncomfortable, painful night flight surrounded by loud drunks arriving at 0415. I could barely walk upon arrival and still have bruises to show for it. We have both flown to many destinations and that was by far the worst we have ever experienced. It is for that reason alone that we will never fly with Thomas Cook again. Appalling.

Christmas Holiday in Gambia
I enjoyed Gambia very much. Loved the hotel's location, the entertainment was excellent. The food was of good quality and great eating outdoors.
The Gambian people are very friendly, helpful. I would recommend people to stay at the Sheraton Hotel and visit Gambia. You will never forget your visit....
I did a few local trips which added to the Gambian experience. Visited St James Island and Slavery Museum harrowing. Also visited local markets, fishing ports, Monkey sanctuary. I would definitely go back to Gambia and visit more sites ie Wasso Stones and Senegal..

nice relaxing holiday
second time here 1st time was good, but this time a few problems, we had no electric in room ,no hot water, kettle didn't work and due to traveling since 4am a nice shower would of been nice and we paid for a delux sea view room which was no better than a standad room which we was moved to due to the problems with our 1st room,as we have paid already to go back in march we made our views on the problems so they would make sure for when we return we wouldn't suffer any of the same problems. The hotel is lovely the staff are so nice and happy ,the food is execellent and wide choice for all types of people. If the rooms where given abit more attention the place would we amazing .

Great winter break
Spend the xmas week in The Sheraton, Gambia & had a fantasic time. Was a little concerned re some negative reviews read on Trip Advisor but everything we experienced was positive. Location absolutely fantastic - right on the beach. Hotel, food, service was great. The only negative was that we were only there for 1 week. We will definitely return next year. if you are looking for winter sun & relaxation can highly recommend.

Great holiday if you want to relax
This was our 4th stay at the Sheraton, and the best yet. Lovely setting, right on the beach and the food and service were superb.
As its Africa, life is a far slower pace than home, so don't expect speedy anything!
Its a ten minute taxi ride into town, and no real entertainment at the hotel, so if you just want to relax, enjoy the sun and eat and drink well, then this is the place for you.
we will definitely go back.

Star rating needs evaluating
Hotel remote, which means catching a taxi to get anywhere. We chose this hotel because it had a spa and a gym. However, the gym has tatty old equipment and the mirrors have lost most of their silvering and so look disgusting. The gym and spa are at the very end of the complex and therefore remote and quite a long way from the other end. All around the doors to the spa there are mosquitos and I did venture in but it was gloomy, humid and mosquitos in there too. It is also by the gym at the end of the complex. It is right on the beach but the beach is not kept very clean. Both lunch and dinner were served as a buffet outside which was very cold in the evening. After a few days we took a taxi to the nearest area with restaurants (15 minute drive) because it became so boring The room had a lumpy duvet, stained curtains and shabby furniture although our view of the beach was lovely. Internet access was virtually non existent. We had no hot water for several days and the air conditioning was noisy . More like a 3 star hotel in my opinion.

Sheraton Gambia would suit those looking for an isolated location
We enjoyed our stay at The Sheraton Gambia. It was perhaps a little isolated for us. If you like to go out to bars and restaurants you would be better to stay further up the road in Kololi.
The staff were very friendly but the service is slow. There tends to be a few of them milling around looking busy but not actually serving anyone.
The all-inclusive was a bit of a disappointment as there is only one bar you can use and you get tired of it. There are also very limited drinks, cocktails are not included within the all inclusive package and in my opinion could be added at no extra cost as they use local spirits for them anyway.
