Hotel, staff, food, resort, location all very good. Staff very friendly. Hotel admittedly not as quite as good as Ibersotar Varadero - but thats 40% more expensive a
nd even in Cuba you get what you pay for. Laguna Azul is terrific value for money.
Ignore the crazy trip advisor bad reviews - that site polarises opinions (aka attracts nutters)
Just one critiscism - stop waking me up/interrupting the film on the flight to tell us we can buy min-cheddars, overpriced 'duty free', and perfume.
And why do you still have reclining seats on aircraft - when the seat in front of you reclines you have zero room. When this happens I 'accidentally' bump the seat in front with my knee every 5 mins until it goes back up - so noone is going to sleep - if they complain "Im sorry but with your seat back I have no room, so I cant avoid bumping into your seat" I never recline my seat because I have manners
Seats that dont recline cost less and break less often.

I went away with my partner and child in may and it was the best hol ive ever been on. The only thing if i had to moan about anything it would be the long haul fligh
t but thats it. Thomas Cook were really good on the way out and back the flight attendants were lovely and polite and made sure all needs were met. We were kept entertained with films shown 3x's, duty free, meal, snack and drinks in between. When we got off the plane we had a 30 min ride by air con coach to our hotel. We went to our room which was massive and the bathroom too. I couldnt fault the room at all, the balcony was very large too. The pools were always clean and tidy and the resort itself lovely. The food changed on a daily basis and the buffet for breakfast, dinner and tea was gorgeous, the a la carte restaurants gorgeous too.The staff at Laguna Azul were all lovely we made some great friends who said they would love to see us again soon. The kids club were great they used to come down to the beach and do games with the kids and star friends used to do daily activities like water aerobics, shooting, boules, archery, streching and dancing then games this was also ongoing around the pool areas too. I must say all staff were really nice and i loved the pool bar i would sneak for a cheeky drink while my partner was sun bathing! the evening entertainment was great i loved every min of it and cant wait to go back 5* defo deserved.

I would recommend this hotel and resort. We had a brilliant time. The staff were helpful, friendly and could not do enough to help you. The beach is the perfect plac
e to relax. No fighting for sunbeds there were plenty. The rooms are clean and spacious. The food is good with plenty of choice, only down side the food on the buffet self service area could have been hotter. The freshly cooked pizza'a and the freshly baked bread were delicious. I can't wait to visit this island again.

Overall found this holiday to be excellent. Before booking we had read various reviews regarding the location and hotel and all I can say it must be extremely diffic
ult to please a lot of people. Starting with Cuba itself I found the majority of locals very polite and helpful. The staff at the hotel were all pleasant and friendly, the food in the buffet restaurant was varied, if you couldn't find something you liked then you must be very fussy. The a la carte restaurants were amazing especially the Japanese and well worth a visit. Rooms at the hotel were cleaned every day, big white fluffy towels were replaced when required and usually in some sort of decoration not just hung on the towel rails. Children's entertainment was good and the staff there took a lot of time and effort with the little ones. Everyone in Cuba likes to be tipped whether it's at the bar, pool, bus drivers whatever and wherever you go have change at hand because it is expected. Would most certainly go back again and my only gripe (if you can call it that) is I wish the tour companies would make it easier to fly from Scotland. When we were there we were the only Scots at the hotel because all flights to the Caribbean seem to be Manchester or Gatwick so come on tour companies there is life north of the border. I would recommend Cuba to anyone who is considering it as their next holiday destination

Hi having recently travelled to cuba varadero on my first thomas cook holiday i am not impressed and very septical of booking my holiday to egypt with the company fo
r January. Whilst on board the crew on the outbound flight where very rude i requested to buy cigarettes from the duty free as the host walked past and did not ask when i recieved my goods they where slug into my lap in far more quantity then i had asked for when i told the man he had made an error he took the extra boxes and did not offer me a bag and i had to ask. After this small fumble i thort not to complain until i had to ask for my visa card as in my ticket booklet it states that this is included in the price of the booking yet again i was told they had non on board and i would be to pick one up after i had landed at customs, upon arriving i had to pay 30CUC each for a visa card that i should not have payed and having already paid for my holiday and expecting this to be included was not happy at the thort of forking out more money to enter the country that i should not have to!. Then to make matters worse arriving at the hotel our rooms where not ready and where told they would be so at 4pm, an hour and half later still not ready after a ten hour flight i do not find this service acceptable at all.

After years of saying we wanted to go to Cuba, we finally got there this September.
Initially we fancied staying in Holguin but we realised it was too far from Havan
a to make a visit.
So we plumped for Varadero which was only a 2 hour journey away.
We chose the Iberostar Laguna Azul because of the great reputation of Iberostar hotels. Obviously we couldn`t resist the temptation of looking up the hotel on "trip advisor". We are too long in the tooth to be swayed by some of the more moronic comments on that site so we chose to make our own judgements.
The hotel was lovely, the rooms were big, the food was great in the buffet and superb in the a la carte restaurants. The staff were probably the friendliest that we have met. The evening entertainment is pretty good especially the magic show....yes, the magic show, seriously.
Any problems were dealt with promptly and with a smile.
We were really looking forward to our trip to Havana, knowing what to expect but then again, NOT knowing what to expect. I haven`t the litery skills to describe Havana, just go there and see it for yourself. While you are there, take a trip to the Tropicana, drink Rum and smoke a big cigar (even if, like me you don`t even smoke) What a night.
Hasta La Victoria Siempre
