Beautiful hotel and location, Surly rude staff !
Beautiful hotel set in stunning area, with lovely beach.
What spolit this holiday for our family was the underlying attiude of the staff in particular the ladies on reception, who were curt and rude.
We were surprised that in a supposedly 5 star hotel that the mini bar in our room was stocked with two small bottles of water and 4 cans of pop which was suposed to last us 10 days as they do not restock at any time in your stay, unless you pay for the refill.
We have to say that our opinion of this resort is that it is not for British tourists . As a well travelled British family it was the first time we were made to feel unwelcome on holiday.

Good family holiday
Very good to be able to use all the facilities of the other hotels.
Lots to do, and loads of space by pool and beach. Kept very clean.
I would recommend the royal palace.

Excellent holiday in Duni, Bulgaria
We stayed at the Marina Royal Palace in August 2012 on an all inclusive basis, with use of all the facilities at the hotels which make up the Duni Royal Resort.
Accommodation - we booked a suite and were not disappointed. The separate bedroom was huge, with a superking size bed. Our son had a sofabed in the lounge which was adequate. We had a good sea view from our 5th floor room, at the rear of the hotel but actually a better view than those at the front overlooking the swimming pools. separate aircon in lounge and bedroom was very welcome as it got quite humid, especially in the evening. We had 2 televisions but only English channels were CNN and BBC World Service. Minibar was stocked with water and soft drinks. Very clean bathroom.
Service - bearing in mind the language difficulties - not all staff had good English - service was very good with one or 2 small exceptions when the waitresses forgot to bring our drinks! Reception staff and bellboys were helpful. Cleaning staff - both maids in the rooms and throughout the complex did a very good, if probably unappreciated, job.
Food and Drink - buffet style meals, lots of choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner, although a little geared towards the Eastern European majority of guests. Filled rolls were available during the daytime, and a good selection of cakes at 4pm. English tea with cold milk seemed to mystify the staff though... Good selection of inclusive drinks, both soft and alcoholic, and plenty of bottled water available. Each night dinner was themed, e.g. international, Balkan, Gala night, but the majority of food on offer was the same each evening. Visited the Italian a la carte restaurant where food and service were very good. Amused by the ice cream dessert which came with nuts and washers on pineapple (turned out to be pineapple rings).
Entertainment - was plentiful and of a high standard throughout the day and evening/night but was not forced on you. Lots of pool activities in the main pool at the Marina Beach, but nice and relaxing at the other pools. Entertainment at the amphitheatre was of a high standard, and the night club was appreciated by our teenage son.
Trips - we took a taxi into Sozopol, simply wait for a taxi outside the hotel, agree a return time with the driver and pay on return. Lots of souvenir shops/market stalls in Sozopol but no big shops. Took a sailing cruise which included drinks and a picnic lunch - very enjoyable with a very attentive Balkan Holidays guide (booked through Thomas Cook rep). Went on Jeep Safari - be prepared for a long, hot day with mad drivers, but very enjoyable. Large groups, mainly German and French speakers but with an English speaking guide. Again booked through Thomas Cook rep.
Rep - very helpful Bulgarian lady, Rumi, who answered all our questions and dealt with the reception staff on our last day, facilitating booking of a shower room etc.
Location - a bit remote, we would have found it difficult to keep ourselves busy if we hadn't gone on the trips, there's nothing within walking distance. Great if you want to relax by the pool/on the beach - but be up early to reserve your sunlounger.

Luxury in Bulgaria
I went with my 20 year old daughter for a quiet week away. The hotel is fabulous, just like the name it is like a Royal Palace. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the food and service were excellent. The evenings were a bit dull though. After dinner there was only an hours entertainment in the adjoining hotels amphitheatre (which we didn't find out about untill the third night) or just drinking in the bars. It would have been nice to have had a singer, comedian or entertainer in the Royal Palace. The beach is sandy and the sea warm and very clear. The pools are good. We went on three of the organized excursions which we enjoyed, especially the Jeep Safari up into the Strangja Mountains. The off road part could have been a lot longer though, which would have made it very exciting. All in all we enjoyed our holiday very much but I don't think we would return.

Three Years Running to Duni
We cannot recommend Duni Royal Resort highly enough. This was our 3rd visit and cant fault it. The accommodation, staff, pool areas, food, facilities, restaurants, bars, entertainment are all just about the best we've come across.
IF it had a downside, it would just be that it is 8km from the nearest town (Sozopol, which is fabulous) with no bus service, taxis are easily available on the resort though. This is never a problem for us as a couple, but can sympathise with families of more than 4 as there are no large MPV or 5/6 seater taxis.

This was our first trip to Bulgaria, the only downside were the flight times out and back (flying from Manchester). Other than that the hotel was fabulous, very few British people there most were German and Bulgarian.
Could have done with a Life Guard on duty more often to enforce their pool rules.
Entertainment every night and it was good quality, but if you wanted just to be quiet there were plenty of comfortable places in the hotel to sit. Most of the entertainment was in the Amphitheatre which was away from the Marina Beach so there was no noise at night.
Food was OK and plentiful, there was always something that we liked. Bar staff in the lobby bar could be a bit more pleasant!
Could not believe how clean everything was, we even saw some ladies cleaning the car park of one of the other hotels! The whole hotel was immaculate.
Will definitely go again.

Bulgaria at its best
After all the research and the holiday is booked you always have doubts as to whether youve made the right choice, walking into the impresive reception of the Marina Royal Palce hotel Duni and the warm welcome i recieved (2.00am) dispelled any concerns I may of had. Everthing about this Hotel/Resort impressed me, fantastic, a truly all inclusive holiday that delivered ! The hotel, manicured grounds , beach, pools and open air bar areas were spotless thanks to a staff that never stopped 24/7. The only thing I can identify as a short coming was a lack of evening adult orientated entertainment, however families and teens - mid twenties were well provided for. A broad mix of nationalities with only a modest British contingent made for a real holiday abroad feel and all were well served by the staff. As a picky eater I returned with a few additional pounds thanks to the wide selection and quality at every meal . Daily room service and excellent room made for a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Chuffed to bits with my holiday choice !!
