My family and I have just returned from our first stay in Afitos and the Hotel Stamos. The Hotel is small, quiet and very friendly and only a short walk from the vil
lage centre with its many excellent tavernas. Staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and any issues, which were minor, were swiftly resolved. The pool area was very restful, and always clean and tidy, and the bar is good value for money. The rooms, though modest, were kept immaculately throughout our stay. The aircon, paid locally, was a great boon during a particularly hot and humid few days. Breakfast is very reasonable, with a range of breads, croissant, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, jam, yoghurt, honey, coffee, tea and juice.
The village itself is charming and has kept much of its original character with a really lovely atmosphere at night. The views down onto the beach and turquoise sea are stunning. The tavernas provided some of the best food we've had in Greece and we ate at a pretty fair selection. Prices were also reasonable. If you'd like a taste of genuine Greece, come here and enjoy the real 'Filoxenia' on offer.

Afitos is a lovely village with plenty of bars and taverna's to chose from, more than enough for a two week holiday, the sea is crystal clear and turquoise in colour
, make sure you take a snorkel as there are plenty of fish to look at. The Stamos hotel is a little dated but it would appear they are up-dating the rooms as two of them are really modern, but you can not fault the friendliness of the staff, Catherine will do anything for you, and Yannis was really helpful too. The pool although looks small is more than adequate and looks lovely at night with all the lanterns lit, and their ice cream and milk shakes are delicious, as is the village pizza. There are about four different paths to the beach, one of the ways all steps from the village, the ohers not too bad, short but fairly steep inclines, only takes about two minutes for each at a best foot forward pace, we have travelled to various Greek Islands but Afitos is somewhere we would return to. We found The Pirate Cod really nice,( especially the stuffed peppers) Edwards and Christos were good value and really freindly, we did try others, but preferred the three mentioned.
However the holdiay was slighty spoiled by Thomas Cook who charged us £48.00 for extra weight, even though we had no hand luggage, we were charged at £8.00 per kg, so we left alot of items at the Stamos including beach towels and books we had bought at the airport as we were informed by our Rep ..Darren (who by the way was the best rep we have had) it was 19 euro per kg going home. To add further dismay to our holiday we found out all the other British tourist who were staying at the Stamos and had flown with Thomas Cook were all given 20kg when they booked their holiday.

Lovely village, very pretty. Hotel Stamos typical greek style, very comfortable with helpful and caring staff. Walk to the beach is not for the faint hearted, so bew
are. If we had to find fault it was that when dropped off at start of our holiday via a transfer mini bus, (outside local school), it was only the fact that a passerby directed us that we found the hotel. Not sure if this was a one off or the norm. At the end of the holiday we were picked up by coach, much better. Outside the school perhaps not the best place for pick ups, no shade, so if the coach is late etc etc. Saying that the restaurant/bar opposite are very accommodating. All in all a good holiday in a typical Greek village, definately suitable for people looking for some peace and quiet rather than perhaps the club scene.
