Cruises departing in 2015
Some things in life are worth waiting for and a cruise is definitely on that list. Who wouldn’t fancy being transported around the world, from one breathtaking destination to another, all the while enjoying 5* luxury accommodation, food and entertainment? Cruises offer all of this and more.
Whether it is the paradise islands and white sands of the tropical Caribbean that call to you, or the ancient cities, palazzos and frescoes of Europe that set your heart alight, a voyage at sea is a completely unique holiday experience.
Booking early not only gives you a long time to look forward to and prepare for your getaway, but there are also some great cruise deals available for those who choose to book in advance. Early birds can reap rewards and put any savings towards the all-important cruise wardrobe!
With so many cruise lines to choose from, it can be difficult to know what’s right for you. If it is a classic, Old World luxury cruise you have a taste for, then you really can’t do better than a Princess Cruise holiday. Families looking for fun times in a relaxed atmosphere should book with Norwegian Cruise Line, whose action-packed getaways offer a modern alternative to the traditional cruise format.
Alternatively, if it is a romantic break for two you have in mind, P&O Cruises offer several adult-only cruise options, for a more sophisticated voyage experience.
Once you’ve chosen your cruise operator, the next step is to select the right ship. With considerable variation between vessels, even within the same cruise line fleet, it is important to do your research.
Do you see yourself on the likes of Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas, which features a Flow Rider surf simulator, water park, ice rink, outdoor cinema, golf course and a bustling casino (to list just a few facilities), and houses up to 3,600 passengers? Or would you prefer a slower pace of life on a smaller vessel such as the MSC Divina? Housing MSC’s signature Yacht Club (an exclusive ‘ship within a ship’ complex with its own swimming pool, spa and bar and restaurant areas for its guests), this ship was inspired by Sophia Loren herself and offers all of the European glamour and sophistication you would expect of the Italian starlet.
New Cruise Ships for 2015
P&O Cruises ‘Britannia’ Introducing the most exciting P&O Cruises experience yet ‘Britannia’, celebrating British heritage, a modern classic ship. Arriving in spring 2015, Britannia will represent the very best of the best! The largest ship built exclusively for Britain, she will combine signature P&O Cruises features with the very latest innovations in dining, entertainment and modern design. A bold new look! Britannia will embrace a bold new 94 metre Union Flag on her bow displaying the longest version of the Flag anywhere in the world. The new style represents a contemporary approach to cruising which looks to the future, whilst celebrating the past. The new imagery on the bow will be sympathetic to Britannia’s sweeping lines and enhance her presence across the world in port and at sea. Her other distinctive features include blue funnels carrying an illuminated rising sun motif which depicts the Oriental part of the Peninsular and Oriental (P&O) name on the company’s Coat of Arms.
Royal Caribbean ‘Anthem of the Seas’ sailing from the UK in 2015. Anthem of the Seas is the second of the 158,000-ton, 4,100-passenger next generation Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Anthem will be delivered in spring 2015 after sister ship, Quantum of the Seas, launches in autumn 2014. The word anthem is defined as a song of praise and Anthem of the Seas is indicative of many of the best qualities and features of Royal Caribbean International. Quantum represents a step change in cruising and anthem is a song of praise for that step. Anthem of the Seas is set to break industry firsts again and will boast some of the most innovative features at sea. Including bumper cars, a sky-dive simulator and North Star, a capsule that will take people 300 feet above sea level. Staterooms onboard will be larger than the rooms of the Oasis class ships. New stateroom categories will be introduced including rooms with virtual balconies. More family-connected cabins will be introduced allowing multi-generational families to connect up to three rooms together. Solo travellers will also be able to benefit from the new studio staterooms. All rooms will have updated amenities including USB outlets, larger storage solutions and multi-functional furniture.
Itineraries and Destinations
With cruise ships now visiting over 90 countries, the world is literally your oyster, so you will want to give your ideal itinerary a lot of thought.
A fly and cruise option is a great way of saving time - you can fly direct to New York or Miami to begin your Caribbean adventure, where your itinerary will see you visit such exotic destinations as the British and American Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and two-nation, one-island St Maarten/St Martin. Whilst each island will feature the white sands and turquoise waters you would expect from a Caribbean paradise, you will soon notice that each has its own distinct culture and traditions, which make for a varied and exciting escape.
If you are a first-time cruiser or you simply lead a busy and hectic lifestyle and find it hard to get away, then the mini cruise is ideal for you. Lasting anywhere between one and three days, these are the perfect taster experience. Should you wish to sail direct from Southampton, you might find yourself tucking into the legendary beer, frites and chocolate of the picturesque medieval city of Bruges, or even sailing through the spectacular scenery of the Norwegian fjords.
Whether you fancy a short sail around Europe, or a once-in-a-lifetime voyage to the Far East or Australia, cruises provide the perfect way of combining the height of luxury with a whole new way of looking at the world.
