Thomas Cook becomes world’s biggest selling retailer of Cash Passport™ prepaid currency cards.
It’s official – Thomas Cook in the UK is the world’s biggest selling retailer of Cash Passport prepaid currency cards. Seen by many as the modern alternative to travellers’ cheques, more and more holidaymakers in the UK are opting for the Thomas Cook Cash Passport to carry their currency abroad.
Long haul travellers find the cards particularly practical, with travellers to New Zealand and Australia loading an average of more than £800 on to a card. Those heading to the USA and South Africa carry more than £650 on their Thomas Cook Cash Passport, whilst those going to Canada opt for just under £600. Closer to home, travellers to Euro destinations load an average of more than £400 of currency to their card.*
Ian Derbyshire, Chief Executive Officer at Thomas Cook UK & Ireland, said: “Thomas Cook has been providing foreign currency for more than 160 years, so we really are the experts when it comes to holiday money. The rise in the popularity of our Cash Passports isn’t surprising as holidaymakers like the convenience and security of them.”
The Thomas Cook Cash Passport is accepted just like debit cards in 28.5 million shops, restaurants and ATMs worldwide. They can be loaded and topped-up with currency in store, via internet banking or by phone. Travellers can check their balance by phone or online and are sent low balance text alerts. An additional card is available, which can be used by couples travelling abroad for added spending flexibility. It’s also ideal for teenagers going on school or college trips – they take the additional card loaded with spending money on their trip, whilst parent keeps the main card at home to top-up if needed.
